Buying a PS2 for my boy Saturday. Mostly just to play all the old PS1 games, though I do want to get GT4...

Rec'd my Netgear FR328S today. Will hopefully have configured in the next few weeks to get my Solaris box back online. Might be getting a little help from almost-offical CCNA [livejournal.com profile] unixwolf.

Slept like a baby last night, and the night before. That's always good.

Smoked a micro-brisket this weekend. Haven't found any 20lb. briskets here yet. Used 'Jack Daniels smoking pellets' along side my hickory chips. It was a little over cooked (3 hours smoking, 2 hours at 200-degrees foil-wrapped in the oven) but I was unsure how long to cook a brisket so tiny.

Watched JSA: Joint Security Area with the wife this weekend. It was my second viewing. I didn't notice any 'second storyline' during the second viewing, but I did come to understand the ending. Good flick. Drama.

I'm not mopey, I'm 'non-enthusiastic.'

Enjoyed the movie Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. Val Kilmer's lines were the highlight of that movie. He was fantastic, and I always enjoy the penal system letting Robert Downey, Jr. out to make a movie. "I don't think you'd know where to put food at, if you didn't flap your mouth so much. Yes I think you're stupid."

So I noticed SCI-FI was playing 16 episodes of Amazing Stories, which I missed on laserdisc when they were available. I tivo'd them all to later burn onto DVD until I read in Sci-Fi magazine that they've just released the DVD-Box set. Damn. Might have to pick those up instead.

So last night, as I was still in the smoking mood, I smoked some bratwurst for about an hour, then grilled them up to finish. Had them with grated horseradish and a Californian Pinot Noir. Most excellent.

Rec'd a request to photograph my Minolta X-700. I asked, "Which lens?" The answer was a 50mm, or something understated as to not overhwhelm the subject of the shot, the body of the camera itself. I dug out my camera and lenses to put it together for the shot, but couldn't find my 50mm lens. Hmmm. Thought maybe I'd sold it...then I remembered:

We were having a garage sale. We'd done pretty well. I started to get bored, and hot. So I started drinking. Next thing you know, I'm hugging my next door neighbor and giving him one of the X-700's with the 50mm lens!

Moral of the story:
Always stay sober at your own garage sales.

They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it's worked for over 200 years and we're not using it anymore.

Tonight my wife marinated an enitre bag of boneless chicken breasts in olive oil and a variety of spices, and de-silked and wrapped 5 ears of fresh corn in foil with olive oil. I set my bag of Jack Daniel's Smoking Pellets on one burner at high, turned two on low, and kept the other off. Atop the burner which was off, I laid out the corn, and smoked/grilled the breasts on the low burners. About halfway through, I turned the burner under the corn on low as well. Pulled the chicken off at 180-degrees. Enjoyed with a (Californian) Barefoot White Zinfandel.

Everything was perfect, but the corn had no 'smoke' flavor to it, so....will consider 'grilling' the corn sans foil next time.

These last few days have really been draining. Last night, I bit the bullet and went to bed at 2200. When I awoke nine hours later, I was unsure if it had done the trick. But then something odd happened. I little ditty started playing in my head. My foot started tapping. I through off the covers for a visual confirmation. Yep, there it was. Dancing on the sheets. I almost jumped out of bed and did a little jig to the bathroom, dancing in the shower. By the time I was dressed, I was soft-shoeing across the floor, and out the door. What a fantastic morning! I think I'll go to bed early tonight as well!

Well, I finally bit the bullet and enabled VNC on my folks computer. This was not easy, because I had to talk my father through giving me remote access to his router to open the port. He has a lot of patience. We did it, and I was thankful his ISP provided him a router with the very specific option of "Web access --> WAN --> Only this IP." Of course I had them bookmark http://whatismyip.com so they could reference that just prior to contacting me each time. I now have VNC capability on their computer and that alone could possibly save my relationship with my mother.

All Things Considered, September 16, 2005 ยท According to a new study by the British Cheese Board, different cheeses can give you different types of dreams. None of the study volunteers reported nightmares from their bedtime snack. NPR's Melissa Block talks about the results of the study with Nigel White, secretary of the British Cheese Board.

Almost every movie you've seen with the antagonist as a captain of industry amazing his board members with techno-wizardy...is crap. Now, I'm not saying that my CEO can't run a computer - he can; he's one of my best users. But guess who really runs all that gee-wiz stuff in the boardroom? The IT guy who gets stuck after hours. Yep, launching powerpoint presentations from mystic 'network' drives, to using magic 'alt-tab' to fullscreen a DVD presentation...

As a contractor outsourced to manage Information Technology, I rarely get involved with the day-to-day activities of my client. Unless asked, of course. According to an email which circulated site-wide, our client was considering changing coffee vendors, and wanted the input of all coffee drinking associates. See, that's not me. I'm a TNT mushroom-cloud-laying coffee drinking contractor. However, [livejournal.com profile] galinda822 and I were actually sought out to participate in this sampling, as several recreational drinkers were choosing the weaker coffees in their vote. I tried them all, settling on what I am sure is the most expensive, the massive dark roast. It was so delightful, I stayed past my welcome drinking several cups.

An Ode to [livejournal.com profile] celtmanx

And lastly, stuf123 found my next grill for me: A 5.7 liter (350 CID) HEMI Powered Grill - this puppy can cook 240 hot dogs in 3 minutes...just a tad shy of Tony's last hot-dog eating contest!

As long as there is injustice, whenever a Targathian baby cries out, wherever a distress signal sounds among the stars, we'll be there. This fine ship, this fine crew.

I was given a simple task: Order business-DSL for my two sites, for a wireless implementation project off domain. No problem. Unfortunately, most telecom's refuse to publish their phone number online. *sigh* Once that hurdle was overcome, the order process was just as easy as when I used them for my home setup, and, as it turns out, just as fux0rd. My boss was pressuring me to get this accomplished quickly, as we were behind on project deadline. Great. Why something they don't involve me with until it's dropped in my lap is my responsibility, is, I suppose, why I'm here. I was downright gleeful when I was told the installations could proceed as early as the next day! My boss would be pleased. We use our own cabling company, so the would follow up the next day to extend the line from the DMARK to the server room, both sites. That all fell apart this morning. Come to find out, they'd only scheduled one site for the line to be run, even though I'd scheduled our vendor for both places today. And when I called about this, I get the run around, along with the news that my office was responsible for the self-install modem which would be shipped separately? I didn't order a self-install modem. Why was I told I could get a quote when someone else told me you don't give quotes? I didn't give you shipping information or an 'attention to' contact for a modem delivery. HOW DO YOU DO BUSINESS WITH BUSINESSES? I just wish, sometimes, people on the other end of the phone would take more responsibility. I run across it every now and then, and it's always refreshing. If I passed the buck like these people do, I wouldn't have a job.

It's like throwing gasoline on a flame.

Spoke to Bill for 30+ minutes yesterday. It was the most fun I've had in weeks.

Are you enjoying your Kep-mok blood ticks, Dr. Lazarus?

The reason I enjoy watching Office Space is because it has a tendency to shift my paradigm and see work in it's proper perspective, for a time at least. It usually wears off, but damn what a new outlook on life and work when you show up (late) the next day after watching that movie.

You know, with all that makeup and stuff, I actually thought you were SMART for a second.

So I've been shopping for a mac mini for [livejournal.com profile] galinda822. Funny thing about Apple - they set all the prices in all the stores. You cannot buy an Apple without Apple telling you how much you will pay for it. An interesting news article on [livejournal.com profile] chrisbarrett77's personal site blog in which Apple announces that Best Buy will start selling Macintosh computers. Unfortunately for us consumers, that means nothing at all, since the price of Apple computers at Best Buy will be the same price as everywhere else you could ever think to buy an Apple. Because there's no competition in price, there's no 'best' place to purchase. And another Apple oddity: Whenever they release a new or faster product, the old product it replaces - STAYS THE SAME HIGH PRICE AS THE NEWER MODEL! Fantastic. So, let's take stock of what we know: Brand-spanking new Intel 'solo' core mini's with half a gig of RAM and aircards are $599. New older-model, busted-assed G4 mini's with 256MB of RAM and modems are $599. Used mini's are $599. Hmmm, whatever shall we get her? Grrrrrr.

Sorry, I was - door was a little sticky. Did you see that? I'll get one of my boys up here with a can of WD-40.

A couple of weeks ago I posted concerning the number of comments I have rec'd on this site ordered by lj user. While most sane persons view this as an interesting but totally useless tidbit of triva, other, less sane people begin posting multiple, single-word comments to drive up their ranking. Riddle me this, Batman - How can you drive up your ranking if I begin deleting multiple, single-word comments?

Well, the Protector got super-accelerated coming out of the black hole, and it, like, nailed the atmosphere at Mach 15, which, you guys know, is pretty unstable, obviously, so we're gonna help Laredo guide it on the vox ultra-frequency carrier and use Roman candles for visual confirmation.

The 2WIRE DSL modem is retarded. Any static IP (i.e. any device it itself did not assign via DHCP) shows as an 'inactive host' thus the router won't route traffic to it. How dumb is that?

Since my wife and I have engaged Galinda to suffer Firefly and Battlestar Galactica with us, it was only fair when the 6th season of The Soprano's began to air, that we immerse ourselves in her world. Unfortunately, my wife and I have never seen any of the episodes. Kind thanks to [livejournal.com profile] drax0r for loaning me his box sets so we could catch up. I was pleasantly surprised to find it far less violent and with far less cursing than I had expected. Think Deadwood for my expectations. I despise an overabundance of violence and needless cursing.
Sopranos )

I usually dislike popular music. Until later. Then I can appreciate it. I hated Motley Crue when they emerged. I hated them equally 10 years later. However, I get an occasional riff in my head, and now enjoy some of their work. So I downloaded their 'Greatest Hits' last night and burned it CDDA format so I could listen to them on my short drive to work and back. However...something just wasn't right. Now, a seasoned fan would have noticed right away that it wasn't Vince Neil actually singing. The first that that tipped me off was the secondary chords being different. Only after skipping through most of the tracks on the CD did I realize...it was a Japanese band doing a cover CD. I ejected the disc and snapped it in half.

Will be compiling on my Solaris box today and hopefully get slackware installed at home this evening. Slackware is gnu-friendly. Solaris is not.

Lastly, in looking for future used cars to replace the Cav...I've pretty much settled on the yet-to-be produced Dodge Challenger:

I called Covad on the status of my installation. I was told, "They canceled the installation." Hmmm. I asked, "Were they going to contact me to inform me of that?" Apparently I'm 17,000' from the CO, something they were unaware of until they tech actually checked the line from my residence. Grrrr. So I called Charter Cable. 3.0Mbps down/256kpbs up. It's getting worse. But at $42/mo. Something I suppose I could live with. So I ordered it, forgetting I needed a static IP. *eyeroll* A quick call to Charter and I was told they have a 5.0Mpbs down/512kbps up! FANTASTIC! Only $8 more a month! However, I still can't get a static IP with my cable modem because of "new laws" unless I get a business cable account, which is a "considerable" difference in price. *sigh* I can't win here. It's a racket! So I call the business-side, and of course, they aren't allowed to give me any information at all. Only to take my name and number and wait for a call...

OK. So the Charter Sales team called me back. It sounds like their business-class connection is Top-Notch. I don't ever call a 1-800 number, rather, I deal directly with my sales guy. They set my speed 'slightly-higher' than anticipated, to survive a 5% fluctuation, and I have business-class service (unlike the Boyd Ranch Data Center 640/640 SDSL where there were zero SLA's and they treated me like a residential customer...) I get my static IP, and unlike DSL or residential cable, my connection is not shared. FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC. However, the only thing standing between me and them, is price. Here's how it breaks down:

512/128 $ 70
1.5/256 $ 85
3.0/384 $110
5.0/512 $175

Not what I would call conservatively priced, and I cannot afford the $175 a month, but with a two-year contract, they'll give me the 3.0/384 for $100/mo. Now then: Do I revert back to SBC and get the same speeds (2.4/350 actual) for $75/mo. or order this cable connection? Both are 2-year contract.

In other news, despite the fact that I am neither Catholic, nor Irish, my wife required me to wear green today, to lessen the temptation of the 300 women here to 'pinch' me.

Also, the new Dr. Who is premiering, which I am watching only because there is no BSG tonight. I bid you all a FANTASTIC weekend.

Eric

Wife called. SBC was threatening to disconnect our service due to non-payment (when I had my DSL deactivated, I told them to remove all charges; Furthermore, I instructed my wife to pay them only pur phone charges, no matter what she was billed....this left a balance of $83). I called SBC, had the $83 removed from my bill (free-modem & installation with expert (read static-IP) package) and while I had them on the phone...had them reactivate my DSL. Ta-da. Fast forward a month or so, and I'm right back where I was, with one minor change: I'M THRILLED ABOUT IT THIS TIME! 3.0/384, static IP, $50/mo. Life suddenly has possibilities again.

That's what the Goo-goose is doing.

Ordered the COVAD 1.5/384 Dedicated Loop ADSL. For $75/mo.! What wholly sincere ass.

Do you choose to chew goo, too, sir?

The complex maze of PVC pipes under the kitchen sink self-terminated yesterday.

If, sir, you, sir, choose to chew, sir,

BRINKS is in the house for 6-hours today while the wife baby-sits the installer.

With the Goo-Goose, chew, sir.

The refrigerator gets delivered Thursday.

Do, sir.

Drank three bottles of local Missouri wine with the girls last night. A 'German-style' (Steinberg White it's called, similar to a Resiling), an 'Auslese-style' (Cleverly named Golden Rhine...damn close) and their Vignoles (contained surprisingly enough, in a Spatelase bottle - which is their Spatelase variety...HOWEVER, it was a bit dry for such - still quite good).

Mr. Fox, sir, I won't do it.

Watched, "The Jacket" this weekend. It was horrible. At first, it seemed like it might be a less-interesting twist on the fascinating movie, "Jacob's Ladder." As it turned out, it was just boring and unimaginative. Which can sometimes be overcome by a combination of a fantastic score, a great cast, supurb acting, eye-popping special effects, or overwhelming cinematography. As this movie had none of those things, it was just bad.

I can't say it.

And for Tony, a visual representation of my entry, in form of a mosaic:

I won't chew it.

So I'm having this issue with my new DSL service. I ordered 3.0Mbps down/1.5Mbps up with 8 static IP's. However, I've only been seeing 400kbps up. So I call in a ticket today with SBC. They inform me I only ordered 384kbps up. "That's a mistake," I explained. "I was with a sales representative for nearly half an hour crafting my order. I would never have accepted 384kbps up." So I get passed on to sales. "We don't offer anything higher than 384kbps up." Nice. I cancel my order. I have the equipment scheduled for pickup. I have them remove all charges associated with anything from my bill. During the overly-lengthy confirmation for pickup process where the non-English speaking associate got my phone number wrong SIX TIMES IN A ROW, I'm browsing SBC's web site and find what? Upstreams up to 608kbps! (My 640kbps SDSL at the Boyd Ranch Data Center proved long ago that connection wasn't exactly *dazzling* - but hey, better than 348!) So I ask to be transferred to sales. She reads the entire history of my order, including the reasons for my disconnect today, and ensures me that I can get between 1.5 and 3.0 Mbps upstream. I'm instantly furious, and then doubtful. "What's the downstream on that?" I ask. "Three eight-four." she tells me. I scream inside my head. What a bunch of fuck-ups. She conferences billing in. For and extra $100 a month, they'll give me 384-608 up. "How often is it lower than 608?" I ask.
"We can only guarantee 384, sir."
"Fine, what percentage of the time is it 384?"
"We can only guarantee 384, sir."
"Theoretically, you could provide me 384kbps 99% of the time with 608kbps spikes 1% of the time and still charge me for the 608 price?"
"We can only guarantee 384, sir."

Asses.

I have no broadband, and no hope of broadband. I'm going to go home and eat worms.

STL is really starting to piss me off.

February 11th markes my 6th month at the Extended Stay America. Let's take a look back:

Multiple internet outages.
Multiple power outages.
One power outage resulted in my groceries going bad.
4 different rooms.
One room flooded.
The toilet ran in one room.
The tub ran in another.
Broken A/C in one room.
My car was damaged.

It's been a hell of a year. Let's put that behind us now, and move forward.

Well. I just ordered a phone, and DSL. I'll have 3.0Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up with 8 static IP's. I'm going to need my Solaris server soon. Hee-hee! Might even replace my FreeBSD box with linux. Gentoo or Slack probably. I want to play with Ampache.

The way I see it, Japanese cars are ugly. I mean, butt-ugly. But, (at least before they started making them in the states) they were well put together and represented quality. So, despite many American's finding these cars ugly, they purchased them. American car makes saw the trend toward buying these ugly Japanese cars, and so started making American cars which looked like Japanese cars. Two items. No one will ever get a Chevrolet Aveo confused with a Toyota. And now America is filled with ugly Japanese-style cars. Nice.

quark went down again between 0815 and 0825 this morning.

Lost power at the hotel again yesterday between 1500-1800.

Wife and kids safely arrived just prior to midnight Tuesday night.

Have been attending two, concurrent three-day offsite meetings, providing IT support. (This usually means dimming lights and advancing power point presentations for executives...)

One of the hotels provides wired internet access in the convention area, at $100 a connection. Alternately, you can connect to the wireless throughout the building for $10 a day. To counter this shameless practice, I installed a wireless router on the wired end for $100, and in turn broadcast my own wireless signal to 85 CIO's throughout the convention area. It was a great success.

Tony, if it was another power outage, would you mind plugging quark into the UPS? Thanks pal.

No internet again this weekend.

That makes for a very long weekend indeed.

Drank G&T's all day Saturday, drank water all day Sunday. Doing nothing can be exhausting.

I was able to sleep quite a bit, which was more a necessity than a luxury. Of course that may have had to do with the amount of gin.

Met one of Lori's cousins's who live in St. Louis for lunch and a game at Buffalo Wild Wings Saturday. It was a nice time and went quite well seeing as we had never before met. They told me about the St. Charles Oktoberfest on Friday that Lori and I will probably attend.

Sat in my room all day Saturday after lunch and Sunday watching Star Trek Voyager episodes. Got a call about 1700, two servers were down at the Woodlands office. I drove over there, wound my way around the dark corridors, and opened the server room door. A rush of heat assaulted me. It felt upwards of 120 degrees in there. I reset the A/C and power-cycled the two boxes which were bouncing, then called Operations. I was connected to a conference. After 18 hours inundated with Starfleet colloquialisms, I just couldn't get it out of my system.

"What happened?" Someone asked.

"Environmental systems were offline." I responded.

"Did you bring the servers back up?" They asked.

"System reinitialization is now in progress." I told them.

What a GEEK!

There is SO MUCH going on here today and this week, that I'm sure my posts will be brief and infrequent. My wife is also coming down this week, not the best week to do so, but I'll take what I can get.

I'm 36 today. For my birthday, I built myself a FreeBSD box from my old gaming box. Installed Big Sister, but that turned out to be a huge pain in the ass, so I compiled Big Brother instead. The devil you know.... I stared at the Big Sister config page for an hour. I got Big Brother up and running in 4 minutes flat, including compile time. http://paris.darkvoyager.com/bb it's even got xirr on it, but Tony didn't want the client running. Stayed indoors all day listening to music and drinking Gin & Tonic. It's nearly 1700 and I'm thinking about sleeping. The wireless internet here has been stable all weekend. The manager ordered some newer WAP's for the closet which serves this hallway. I'm guessing that will also upgrade their 'g' from 54 to 108Mbps. It matters not to me, all my boxes are running off one of Tony's old 100/base hubs. And yes, there are collisions. I packed my switch away somewhere else I'd be using that.

I've heard of SecureBSD. This is my idea of SecureDARWIN:

So I got Big Sister to come up anyway. Sorta. Anyone who clicks the link above, depending on where I am in the project, will either get one page or the other. This ain't an exact science here people. I'm getting very sleepy...

Rod was at work all weekend working on his servers. Poor bastard.

Well, it was worth the wait. And the frustration which followed. Extended Stay America issued me a publicly accessible static IP for six months. I was able to ssh into teh max0r from quark while I had the tech on the phone. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I'm using Windows XP as my firewall/NAT/port-forwarding router. I really can explain why, but that doesn't make it any less embarrassing.

Tony, I added teh_max0r to your DNS and restarted bind.

I'm looking at getting sendmail to work either on my Solaris server, or my mac, I haven't decided which yet. And as they have a new release of FreeBSD, I may rebuild that box or, perhaps gentoo and use that instead. At any rate, I'm running out of time now. It's nearly 0100, half my St. Louis raspberry weizen microbrews are gone, and I have an early appointment tomorrow...

Internet Access was down when I got back to the hotel after work. Manager was gone and the front desk girl knew nothing. I called this number Tony found for me to move hotel's. Come to find out, they're right next door. "Come on over and use our internet. You can pick it up in the parking lot." It too is wireless. She suggested I call Homestead. They're hardwired to RJ-45 in the rooms! There's a magnet on my refrigerator with the logo for Homestead on it. "For more information log onto ExtendedStayHotels.com." It's a cruel joke indeed. No contact information other than the website. I called Guest Tech again and told them I needed internet access today. They're going to send someone out.

Today I immersed myself in a desktop problem at the other site. Fortunately, I was asked to work on a linux box. Unfortunately, linux is not unix, so it was an arduous task. In the end I determined that the kernel development packages weren't installed and I could not add the serial console to the kernel. In other news, I got my laptop. A Dell Latitude X1. It has a 16x9 screen and a nearly full size keyboard, yet is tiny tiny tiny. It has no PCMCIA slots, but does have an SD and CF slot, bluetooth and wireless built-in. 1.1 GHz Pentium IV Mobile with 768MB of RAM. Wholly adequate. I also got badged today.

Called Guest Tech back after two and a half hours of not hearing from them. They said they'd get someone right on it and that he escalated it to them. I replied, "That's already been done. Two and a half hours ago. I'm curious if they've been doing anything in between my calls, or if they only look at when I call them at two and a half hour intervals. Perhaps they could do something different this time?" Of course that just leads to him repeating the same circular phrase from his help desk book. Asses.

Watched a good three-quarters of Sneakers before the DVD player hit an unrecoverable error due to a large scratch on the DVD and would no longer play. Watched Dogma instead. Pretty powerful movie for a friggin' comedy. My all-time favorite Kevin Smith movie.

The Wireless Access Point is providing a proper IP and gateway now every 45 seconds or so, but still no outside connectivity. And even if it does come up to the point where I can post this, I have no faith that it will be up tomorrow after work and I begin again my vicious cycle.

Sleep

Internet was up this morning, but only after a reboot of the operating system. I seriously don't understand that. Will likely be BORED OFF MY ASS today. At least I have my laptop. They offered to 'build it out' for me as they have an extensive checklist. I sighed. I really am Tom Waters. I have a meeting with the CIO tomorrow and while the admin had me on the phone, she also wanted to invite me to their next monthly admin meeting! Word around the knitting circle was that a new Manager was in town and they'd sure like to meet me. SUPERSTAR! Never underestimate the power of a VP's admin...

Saturday:

Arrived in St. Louis. Found my hotel and moved in. It is, probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed at, in what I assume is the worst part of town. Still, they have a kitchenette, and broadband. Well, that's what I was told anyway. It's wireless access. I have no wireless devices. *sigh.* So, I buy a $100 USB network adapter. Yeah, that's what they run, $100. And I have to use windows to get it to work. Only thing is, it doesn't. Well, the device works fine and connects me to the network. Only I don't get assigned an IP address or default gateway. Who thought wireless was a good idea? There is a silver lining in this dark cloud, and that is, for $75 I can bring Daisy here to stay with me the entire 6 months. Now that makes me happy. Of course in certain parts of St. Louis, my Cingular phone joins the Verizon network and tries to prompt me for credit card information. Anyway, back to the internet. Extended Stay America has a 1-800 number they use for IT support. "Guest Tech." I called Canada and utilizing the Netgear Smart Wizard, connected to individual access points with a static IP, DNS and a gateway. All to no avail, as still, I could not even ping the gateway. We were troubleshooting for about half an hour before he realized he couldn't help me. That's usually the way things go with me. Why oh why couldn't they just wire RJ-45 in these rooms? I'm sure when he calls me back, he'll have a solution. After all, I'm using XP, right? Something he did tell me, however, is that I can request a public IP which bypasses their firewall. Now, IF we can get up on their cheesy WAP, that might just be the most exciting thing to happen to me so far during this new adventure...

Two things I forgot to bring with me to STL. Both are devastating and left a burning in the pit of my stomach when I realized it. My humidor, and my ties. $100 later and I'm the proud owner of three new ties. But WTF am I supposed to find a humidor full of cubans here? I'll have to retrieve it when I got to pick up Daisy.

Sunday:

Guest Tech is going to send someone out tomorrow. Two of the longest days of my life without access in a hotel all alone. I think I'll watch a movie. Oh, and the weekend-night girl is back at the front desk! Today I was 'babe.' Yesterday I was 'sweetie' and 'pumpkin.'

Imported all my opera from my now defunct Shoutcast server to iTunes for something to do and listen to. Full opera's of La Boheme, La Traviata, Tosca, and highlight of Wagner's Ring Cycle. Good stuff. Makes me want to go out and buy more. And of course the Doctor was singing La Boheme on the episode of Voyager I watched last night too...

Monday:

Shadowed my boss all day. He's probably tired of looking at me. Didn't really do anything today. Just watched and listened and sat a lot.
Came into the hotel and asked about the internet access. My very next question was going to be, "What time is checkout tomorrow?" However, much to my surprise, they fixed it. I need a stiff drink. banwidthplace.com clocks me at 83.8 kilobits per second. Watchout for Speedy! Maybe I'll just swallow my own tongue.
