• drax0r has been training to be a mixed-martial arts "cage fighter" and I've been promoting an Exhibition Fight in my backyard - so far the response has been positive and we're going to have quite a turnout. I'm going to buy a bunch of folding chairs and we're all going to take turns smacking him with them. Please let me know if you're interested in fighting drax0r for training purposes, or showing up to watch the scrimmage.


• For those of you who don't know drax0r he's like the Nacho Libre of UFC. In that regard, if anyone has a luchador mask or stretchy-pants we can borrow for the fight, please bring them.

I didn't say he was. In fact, when both panacea42 and I read your post, our first thought was scenes from The Wrestler.

Tell you what: why don't you watch the movie and tell me how it compares to what [Unknown site tag] is doing. Then we can have an intelligent discussion on the topic.

I don't really care about Aronofsky either way, but yeah, the beating with metal folding chairs image immediately brought that movie to mind, lol!

I was less than thrilled with it initially when boyfriend worked on it a few days and after a 14+? hour day the van was delayed coming back into nyc because other crew members wanted to do the 'hopping over the ropes' stunt instead of coming home, lol...but it did make for a great reel at the wrap party.

But when I saw the actual movie in the theater I was blown away, so gritty, and Mickey Rourke was brilliant!

Prior to The Wrestler, I had seen all three of Aronofsky's commercial films and was quite impressed. I loved the layer upon layer theme that Aronfosky had going. Granted, I heard through the grapevine that he's a real asshole to work with, but I think that's because he wants things done his way because he's making his film. To each his own.

I was skeptical going into The Wrestler. Matty Libatique didn't DP signally to me that we wouldn't be getting a whole lot of groundbreaking cinematography. The film wasn't marketed correctly either, nor did they push to keep it in the theater. On the whole, I think Fox dropped the ball. Thankfully, it got nominated for an Oscar.

Watching The Wrestler was a very uneasy task because of all the wrestling stunts. There were several places where it was so brutal that I honestly would have opted to have watched Passion of the Christ.

That having been said, Rourke is a powerhouse playing the role he was born to play. The way the emotional roller coaster was portrayed and the way Mickey rode it reminded me of Ellen Burstyn's performance in Requiem for a Dream. Aronofsky knows how to get a performance out of his talent.

I don't know if I could sit through The Wrestler again. During the first viewing I though, "I couldn't sit through all that again. It's too violent and emotional" but I wanted to see it last night after having the discussion here and on AIM. I loved how the ending was so open-ended but mourned the characters failures to communicate in time to have a happier ending.
