Just got a new toy in the office, the Sony Vaio UX280P. What a sweet piece of work!

It's a full version of Windows XP (which is far less gay than say, Media Center or PocketPC) in a widescreen format with built-in wireless/bluetooth/USB, full docking station & portable port replicator. This little puppy has a full gigabyte of RAM and a 1.2GHz Intel Core Solo chip. This little thing is with a quickness! Of course the first thing I did was install Firefox.

And now, for something completely different, and taking a page out of the book of [livejournal.com profile] irulan_amy, I am on Second Life as London Packbiers. Yes, they have a Mac client.

Interesting device. I trust it is a lot refined from the previous version, it did not get very good reviews. It looks like an excellent concept if it lives up to the actual use. From what I have read though, they are rather expensive, as much as a full laptop?
in any case, spirits bless,
Marion

Its not a clie if that's what you're thinking, but yes, these were $2000. You can also use the touch-screen and rotate the display to portrait - it's like, a fast, usable, stable version of those dreadful tablets.

No, I was talking about the previous version, the UX180P which had some problems with battery life, usability and rather low end components. http://reviews.cnet.com/Sony_VAIO_UX180P_Micro_PC_VGN_UX180P/4505-3126_7-31879278.html
I am pleased to see they have apparently greatly improved the unit. Though frankly I think that price is outrageous for what you get. Pretty thing though.
spirits bless,
Marion

Agreed. I support the National Headquarters of a healthcare organization and have to the keep the CEO knee-deep in new gadgets to play with. Many of the VP's have been requesting tablet-pc's (which I hate) so we're hoping this will be a viable option for them. I still have a lot of playing around to do, but it is a fully functional operating system, and so far, it rox0rs. I think tomorrow we're going to try to put OSX x86 on it. After that, I may try to put Kubuntu on it ;)

Search on man.
Calm savior, god speed and forgive you
Morning star, fragrant meadowperson girl.

Nice to meet you!

I'll take the laptop and leave the handheld thing-a-ma-bob thanks. :-)

Laptops are not as expensive and I actually have a faint idea of how to run it... whereas with this thing I wouldnt have the faintest clue! :-P

It's exactly like a tiny laptop. If you know how to use a laptop, you'd know how to use this, because they used the exact same operating system... Schweet!

Dude, that makes me jealous in the pants. I've longed for one of those micro-vaios for quite some time. Enjoy!

Why does all the excitement happen when I'm gone?
Just what we need...another device the user's won't have a clue how to use.
They'll want one though cause it looks cool!

Do I sound cynical?

Trust me they never know how to use them!!!!!
Your not being cynical.
I deal with the same type of simpletons every day.

(Sample of a typical customer)
My phones, not working!

What did you do to make it work?

Pushed the power key!!!!!!

I love when they call because somethings not working and I go up there only to find the power cord isn't even plugged in - then they want you to tell them how it came unplugged!!!

Do I sound cynical?
Bitterly or sneeringly distrustful, contemptuous, or pessimistic.

Hmmmm. Hard to say, seeing how the entire office agrees with you.

And that's my 'life' experience after working there for almost 8 yrs.
