I am indeed getting 5.0+ Mbps down, and approximately 500kbps up. Not too shabby.

Galinda, my wife and I completed the Firefly series and watched the movie Serenity Friday night. Both were fantastic!

Patched my Solaris operation system, upgraded my Gallery software and de-installed BIND and CommuniGate. The built-in router in the DSL modem is crap, and I don't want to spend the money on a hardware router, so I'm contemplating Tony's suggestion of building a linux router, even though I have no idea of how to make that work. Like Galinda says, "You love a challenge." I might argue this point with her.

My wife and I constructed a desk using two dilapidated file cabinets of dissimilar size and the wooden door from my son's closet which we had previously removed. To adjust the height of the smaller rusted filing cabinet, I used my 2U SPARC server, quark. It's adequate until we get our new office furniture (which will be purchased from IKEA at some future date - my wife is planning a trip to the store). It ain't pretty, but it's functional.

OK - I think I'm going to use m0n0wall as my router using basic NAT; no port translations. If I can get that to work the way I want it to, I should be set.

It's only 1300 and I have meetings from 1400-1600. At least it's been a slow Monday...

(2:34:38 PM) studleyqbeefpile: i say, old bean, have you seen my hat?
(2:34:48 PM) studleyqbeefpile: oh yes I have
(2:46:09 PM) EricHowton: Alrighty then.
(2:49:36 PM) studleyqbeefpile: i say, old bean, have you seen my hat?
(3:00:50 PM) EricHowton: Heh, the programmed AIMbots are more verbose than you!
(3:04:36 PM) studleyqbeefpile: i say, old bean, have you seen my hat?
(3:04:37 PM) studleyqbeefpile: reeeadinggggg
(3:04:48 PM) studleyqbeefpile: what does that mean?
(3:05:05 PM) studleyqbeefpile: and why do you have my screen name??
(3:07:20 PM) EricHowton: Dude, you popped up on mine. I have no idea.
(3:07:44 PM) studleyqbeefpile: erichowton: i say, old bean, have you seen my hat?
(3:07:50 PM) studleyqbeefpile: youve sent that to me like 3 times
(3:08:17 PM) EricHowton: (2:34:38 PM) studleyqbeefpile: i say, old bean, have you seen my hat?
(3:08:30 PM) EricHowton: It shows here you've sent that to me three times.
(3:08:40 PM) EricHowton: We've been infiltrated!
(3:08:44 PM) studleyqbeefpile: youre a relay bot
(3:08:53 PM) EricHowton: Hmmmm, I'm running OTR
(3:09:12 PM) EricHowton: And I'm behind a corporate firewall. Wonder how that's possible?
(3:09:33 PM) studleyqbeefpile: i dont even know what that means i just typed in the hat thing on google with your sn and the first thing that came up gave a list of sns that were relay bots and yours was on it
(3:11:08 PM) EricHowton: Odd.
(3:11:10 PM) EricHowton: http://zamiel.livejournal.com/1010889.html
(3:12:40 PM) EricHowton: Found out what it was. It's a bot that pairs up random screennames from livejournal, and IMs them both with the same sentence. As you talk, it also changes the other persons screenname visible to you to 'studleyqbeefpile'. There are a bunch of different ones, apparently. Pretty clever. Seems benign; annoying at the very worst.
(3:13:12 PM) studleyqbeefpile: so no viruses or anything
(3:14:26 PM) EricHowton: Nope. How weird. Sorry for the intrusion.
(3:14:39 PM) studleyqbeefpile: ditto.

wtf with the bots?

My only assumption is that lj is striving to be as gay as xanga.

they've succeded admirably.

Thank you for finally admitting that xanga is gay!

You have admitted time and time again that Frank is gay as a queer shimming up a pole. Furthermore, with this new wave of gaydom, LJ comes closer to forcing you out of the closet. You nearly did when you posted about your shoes; however, you are still in denial about it. Get over it and just come out of the damned closet.

I hate Frank, the lj mascot. But my lack of tolerance does not make him homosexual. xanga's lack of threaded posts however, does make xanga gay.

yes, but even on LJ when you thread so deep, the threading system breaks down on LJ. Besides, it is not user friendly and is drab.

Just because lj has a higher class of users than xanga, don't go knocking it as being dull. I apologize now for all the lj users who can properly link words together to create sentences because it offends your leet-speak youthfulness and hint of ebonics on which you have been raised.

I'm not talking about the substance of the journals, I'm talking about the lack of pizzah in visual presentation

I'll take functionality of use over "Ooooh, look...pretty!" any day.
Date/Time: 2006-04-12 18:26 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
but you can have both and I think that Xanga fills this need more readliy then gay LJ. An example of over-kill is MySpace. That shit reeks to high heaven
Date/Time: 2006-04-12 18:33 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
I don't know what MySpace is, and probably don't care. xanga obviously doesn't 'fill the need' of balancing pretty pages (which, IMHO aren't) and functionality, because, that's what I find missing in the lack of threaded posts. Functionality. The only reason I ever go to xanga is to read your site, and if you moved to lj, I'd block it.
Date/Time: 2006-04-12 18:35 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
I'm not moving, so there. Xanga will eventually have threads.
Date/Time: 2006-04-12 18:39 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
xanga will one day not be gay. good for you.

deference is not saying it, prudence not thinking it

*sigh*

I just saw this. This is an amazing statement, coming from you.

Ass. I knew you'd say something like that. For example, on your (http://drax0r.org) webpage, you use flat text. I used your same basic template and made it more 'pretty' with graphical representations as links...also increasing it's functionality. One's mind picks out familiar logos and colors much more quickly than a single string lost in a sea of text. WhyTF do you think I drive a Cavalier, for example, if we're going to take my quote out of context? Because it's pretty? Unlikely. It's functional (and, as an aside, inexpensive, meeting multiple goals simultaneously). There are things each of us prefers to spend our money, time, effort, whatever on 'pretty' over functional. Your WEGA television for example - why a 36" color when a 12-inch black and white will do? Context, context, context!
