WHEN GENTLE GIANTS ROAMED THE EARTH

"Yes." I said before [livejournal.com profile] catttitude had even finished her sentence. All I'd heard was "Petsmart" and "Maine Coon." Two hours later, Marko Ramius walked amongst us.

Marko Ramius
You see, Squeegie was supposed to have been my cat. "The Ghost of Daisy" and all that. But nooooooo - she goes and bonds with my wife, and my wife with her. So there I was, left cleaning the litter box.

Once more, we play our dangerous game, a game of chess against our old adversary.
Look at the freaking mits on him! And I'd forgotten how soft a Maine Coon was - not quite Bengal soft, but nearly as luxurious. And he stands just like a Maine Coon too. Its so funny having one back in the house again - so very different from Squeegie. But rather than fight, the two of them entered peace negotiations as soon as they became aware of each other.

I affectionately call Squeegie "Smushy-Face" due to her short snout.
I've never seen a cat acclimate so quickly to new surroundings. I take this as a sign that Marko Ramius is an awesome cat, and that we're going to have a great partnership he and I. Marko Ramius was born in 2008, so I hope this means we have many, many years together. He kinda makes me miss my Daisy though, too. But that's not all bad.

He doesn't react well to bullets.

Awesome cat! He looks quite formidable :-) But incredibly cuddly at the same time...how the heck do cats manage to do that ?!?

I haven't been able to figure out yet whether its the breed (this is my second Maine Coon) or because he's male (I've not had a male cat before) but you're right, he does have a presence about him. It reminds me of the heady days of Sputnik and Yuri Gagarin...

No, it's the fact that he is a male cat. Trust me!!!

Thank you - now I know.

My cat Bartleby is a Maine Coon/Siamese mix. He's the color of a Russian Blue (with white marks), is nearly 3 feet long, weighs 14 lbs (and is lean and still growing) and sounds like an air raid siren when he meows (which is always, since he is part-siamese.)

(Notice here his size-comparison to my torso... I'm 5'10 and weigh 225)

What a mix! What a CAT! (And my wife *loves* your cat's name...) Does he get along with Hedgie?

It's an uneasy truce, but yeah.

Yikes! Never trust a Maine Coon with anything that can fit in its mouth ;)

News from the front-lines reports that after a terse 18-hours of saber-rattling, the two cats have now engaged in a game of tag utilizing the entire house as their playing field. The tension is gone now that the posturing is over!

Look at those paws, yeesh. I'm glad you've found a new cat.

I want a Maine Coon. A lot.

I'm quite sure you've spoken those exact words on here somewhere before.

When the time is right, and more importantly, the cat is right, I feel certain it will happen.

awh kitties!

My ex has a siberian which was majorly expensive and that cat had the hugest paws ever, also shed everywheerreee, hated that but supposidly is the only cat that won't cause cat allergies. *shrugs*

My best friend has a bengel mix, that cat is crazzyyyyy but strangly since she's moved the cat has really calmed down and is kinda nice. Sat in my lap the other night infact, first time in years she's done that and not cause she wanted to attack me, haha

Your cats are both lovely looking, the 2nd pic is the best!
Date/Time: 2010-04-02 13:44 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
Oh I bet that Siberian was drop dead gorgeous! I've had to reconcile my desires (long-haired high-maintenance kitties) with my abilities (travel, working, no time for daily brushings) and have just been pleased as punch with Maine Coons. I've had Bengals, and while uber-soft, [livejournal.com profile] somebritinmass accurately refers to them as "Razor blades in fur coats."

Sadly, mine were (presumably) eaten by Coyotes.

Glad you like the Russian Naval hat pic - I can almost see him giving that speech!

That is one fabulous cat. When I visit again I shall give it some luvin's.

He's a real lover boy, and he knows it. Fortunately, a side of awesome is attached to that kind of self-confidence.

Personally, I think he's going to like your new hair :P

Very handsome cat E! Can't wait to come over and meet him, so far all of your cats seem to like me, hopefully he is the same way!

Date/Time: 2010-04-02 14:42 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
Oh I just know you two are going to get along famously. He's pretty confident about being petted. I think the cats like you because you have a kind face!
Date/Time: 2010-04-02 15:57 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] celtmanx.livejournal.com
Congratulations on your latest acquisition!!! May you both live long and prosper.

That's the idea! He's going to someday TAKE OVER THE WORLD. He's a stalwart personification of righteousness. He battles evil.

oh, he is just gorgeous... enjoy your new friend :)

*BEAM*

He's my special boy!
Date/Time: 2010-04-02 19:19 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] kat-rowe.livejournal.com
I can see why. I suddenly find myself wanting to get another cat *pets him*
Date/Time: 2010-04-02 19:35 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
How many do you have? We prefer two. At the most we've had three - a Maine Coon and two Bengal kittens...that was too many. After the Bengals got eaten by Coyotes and the aged cats followed each other over the Rainbow Bridge we've had only Squeegie for about a year. Now we are two again!
Date/Time: 2010-04-02 19:58 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] kat-rowe.livejournal.com
only the one since Loki passed. two is a good number (we've had up to 8 at one time but that was when we were doing rescue and it was kinda nuts and we adopted them all out in a few months). Betty would probably enjoy the company and it's not much additional hassle as long as I don't get one too young. Maybe I'll run by the local shelters on Monday and see what's on offer

...as long as I don't get one too young.

This exactly. I prefer mature cats. Marko Ramius is two; Perfect!

I visited a couple who ran a rescue in Alabama. One word for that nonsense - DAMN!
Date/Time: 2010-04-02 20:51 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] kat-rowe.livejournal.com
a lot of rescuers go totally overboard (Mom had like 3 rabies scares in the two decades she did it. how nuts?) and i may prefer my pets to be rescues but I won't do the mass-rescue thing ever again
Date/Time: 2010-04-03 00:54 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] celtmanx.livejournal.com
I'm glad Speedbump wasn't mature then, now I don't feel so bad for catnapping him.
Date/Time: 2010-04-03 01:15 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
He grew into a beautiful, well-behaved boy though didn't he?
Date/Time: 2010-04-03 03:52 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] celtmanx.livejournal.com
Yes, but it took many behavior modification treatments in order to get that result!!!

lol. i know what you mean. you have to be a special kind of nuts dedicated

I wish I weren't so allergic to the kitehs. But he is...commanding in his visage. Mighty. He looks like good ol' Sean. LOL. I'm Marko... Marko Ramius. Shaken not stirred. A Fairy Bomb perhaps?
Date/Time: 2010-04-03 14:38 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
Yes! He's quite stern looking isn't he?

sooooo you have mice right? sigh... Why do all my cool friends have cats? I can't come visit with my wolf because he will MUNCH them. So what to G&P think about this new furball?
Date/Time: 2010-04-09 15:36 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH! Marko Ramius is welcomed addition to our household. The kids love him because not only he is more laid-back than Squeegie, he's also more personable :P
Date/Time: 2010-04-19 18:34 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] codekitten.livejournal.com
oh he looks SO soft! i love big paws too...there is nothing cuter :)

that's fantastic that the kitties get along so well already...it almost never works out that way (so fast)!!!

more kitty pics please!!!

Squeegie laid down on her back, spread-eagled making eye-contact with Marko Ramius, who was perched on the back of the sofa spying on her. As soon as she looked away, he leapt down atop her and they wrestled that cat-wrestle that young cats do, because he's still a young cat at two. Twice they did this, but I had my camera on and rolling for the third attack...which never came :(

I miss all the good shots/video.
Date/Time: 2010-04-19 18:45 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] codekitten.livejournal.com
damn it!!!

i love when they get all spread-eagled and pretend they aren't doing it to be submissive...then the wrestling ensues!

ok, well keep the camera around just in case
