I don't want to watch live television from my cell phone.
I don't want to play games on my mp3 player.
I don't want to download songs on my blackberry.
I don't want to take pictures with any of the above devices.
I like wearing a watch.

I guess I'm just old fashioned.

The pics from the hospital I sent you on 1/29/07 were taken with a Samsung Blackjack that does all of the above.

Perhaps, but this I am sure of - it doesn't do any one thing well.

Actually I still prefer my razor but it was pretty cool to take pics with a 1.3 megapixel camera and instantly e-mail them.

I also was reading LJ with the full internet access I had with internet exploxer on it.

Hey every time I try to read the comments on your post Baby, It's Cold Outside... my I.E. crashes.

"I don't want to download songs on my blackberry."

You can only do that on the Pearl.

The Black does all of that and much much more but the battery life sucks but it is super thin.

But I bet you're open to porn on any of those same devices in addition to waffle irons, refrigerators, stereos, alarm clocks, and "digital shower curtains."

Too true.

I got my Y-Box (X-Box 360) on Monday. I cant believe half the crap this thing does. You can actually stream video, pictures and music from your Windows-based computer to your console. (Not such a big deal since they're about 5 feet away from each other, but you get the idea)

Add to that X-Box Live, CDDB access, DVD player (with a HD-DVD addition for $200), a 20 gig HD and you start to notice that your PC isnt the only PC in the house anymore.

Trufax.

I feel so old-fashioned sometimes because I have separate devices for separate functions rather than one giant everything-including-the-kitchen-sink device. But I like it that way and I don't intend to change any time soon.

In fact, I was wondering about the watch thing the other day. A friend of mine claimed that it was easier for him to just check the time on his do-everything-device (after taking it out of his pocket first) than it was to wear a watch, and I was all WTF? over this. And when I asked him if he kept hauling it out of his pocket to impress people and thus compensate for something else, I earned a glare for my comment. Hehe.

I want porn on my waffle iron. And the toaster. And maybe the wok too, because stirfrying would be waaaaay more fun then.

That's because IE sucks. Use Firefox.

I want to listen to songs on my portable mp3 player exclusively.

I'm all about the digital shower curtain. If it had a touch screen interface, I could open multiple windows and check the weather & my email too...

Remember 'WebTV?'

Separate devices will ultimately reign king on quality - and even if you could put a full-featured mp3 player in a high-quality digital camera and use it as a phone with web access...the user interface would be a nightmare.

All-In-One devices make my head explode!

Agreed.

When [livejournal.com profile] photogoot and I had the Tower of Power people would come over to watch a movie with us, or whatnot, and often comment to me, "You have too many remotes."

*sigh*

I looked at them as if they were retarded and often explained that we had exactly as many remotes as we needed. We didn't have extra remotes laying around unused. Each remote served a different and unique purpose.

Often I feel I'm alone in this world.

Sometimes. I just like a good old fashioned game of risk. Yep, the game where you actually role the dice and move the guys around on the board, and sometimes a guy miraculously appears or disappears on the board. The one where you have to use the entire dinner table to play.

Of course. I don't have a cell phone, blackberry, palm pilot thing, or a mp3 player. heck I don't even have a watch.

Someday I'll escape the Matrix....

And preferably a way to play Guild Wars/other games on the digital shower curtain too. What with email/porn/my f-list/GW, there'd never be a need for me to leave the shower ever again. *wistful*

Imagine how pruney you'd be never leaving the shower though! Yikes!!!!!

Eew. Yes. Not to mention the dried-out and straw-like hair.

You make a good point!

I totally support your premise while noting that a PC can do all of these things (when it comes to pictures, I would of course expect to use a D-SLR and then transfer the images of course). To me, the only place for all of this technology to merge is in the PC because it's a multi-purpose device by default. If you don't believe me, ask the EEs. Ask them if in theory CPUs are actually infinite state machines. It will make for a good debate.
