I must not fear.

I have found that the Don Davis remix/collaboration of Juno Reactor's Mona Lisa Overdrive is perfect for traversing traffic at top speed in the metroplex. It heightens all your sensations, gets your heart beating, and gives you focus. In fact, most of The Matrix: Reloaded Disc 2 is helpful for this.

Fear is the mind-killer.

Made enchilada's last night for dinner. They were great. Well, there wasn't any canned enchilada sauce, so I made my own, tempering the bitterness of the chili powder with cumin and ground oregano, but made it too thick and didn't cover the pan when I baked it, so I dried out a little. And there were no poblano peppers at Tom Thumb, but there were serrano's so I used those instead, dicing and saute'ing them with onions prior to browning the ground beef, but there really wasn't enough meat to stuff them so its as if they were existent. Fantastic enchilada's regardless of my self-critique.

Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

Had a fantastic weekend. Wife and kids came down Thursday night, I took Friday off, and we spent all weekend together. Mom & Dad kept the kids overnight Friday night. That too was awesome. My last day with this client is Friday, and my first day with my new client is the Tuesday after the holiday, but since Richard is going to be in Wichita that week...he suggested I start my indoctrination there. An entire week with the family. Hell of a guy that Richard.

I will face my fear.

Speaking of, the Cav is at or near capacity, and I have still to pack my desk and my belongings at David & Wendy's. I will probably unload the entire car in his driveway, stack everything around it, and begin the packing process. It's like a jigsaw puzzle...of a picture of the sky...with no picture on the box to help guide you. Japanese Hibachi Grill tonight with David & Wendy. I need to pack the car before nightfall.

I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

Lori and the kids left Sunday morning back to Wichita, and from there I drove to the ADC to pack more stuff. The Cav is riding low and handles much differently now. From there to David's to play poker. Everyone played really well and it was an exciting game. My trip 9's were beat out by trip 10's and that basically blew me out of the game. Holomatch followed until 0300. All in all a fantastic weekend.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

teh max0r is down and packed, in fact the only running server I now have is quark which is in my rack in the Data Center with a powered-off Sun E250 (sevenofnine) which will remain on the T1 until such a time WDT is officially dissolved. We have partnered with a Canadian poker accessories wholesaler, and I have to add their products to our homepage - which I'm sure I'll get around to once I've settled from moving (provided I can get a Hotel in St. Louis with broadband). I'll be living in a Hotel for the next six months. Exciting? I think not.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

Apparently, I'm going to Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary.
My favorite Team Leader explains, "This one guy was caught buying and selling on eBay at work and he went to prison." I replied, "I assure you, that is not true." "YES IT IS!" he said. Then I discover that he was illegally selling government equipment. Maybe that's why he went to prison? Oh, also, "We had this other guy who was logging into his server at home from work and he went to prison for 10 years, so you shouldn't do that either." Yes, I log into my server at home from work. No, it's not to trade kiddie porn! which is why that guy was busted. I wonder, does my Team Leader really not make the distinction between what is a Federal Offense and what is not? It's really too much to take.

Only I will remain.

Well, when it's all said and done I ended up deleting many albums. Most of them were soundtracks, not scores, and all of them were ripped at 64kbps. Ok, that's not entirely true. As a rule of thumb, I do not listen to anything in which the artists name begins with, ends with, or contains, "Da, 2, 4, 6, 8, (but not limited to even numbers) busta, yo," any references to denomination or beverage, (i.e. iced tea, 2 cent (also encapsulates previous rule)), the letter "U" as a standalone word, variations of disc jockey's or master of ceremonies, or any other word or deviation of word which applies to timbre, amplitude or frequency of pulses of sound, or phonology descriptions.

Think I ought to apply for a trademark on the subject line just in case?

quark has been up for 80 days. Not too bad considering all he's been through, the move and all, and the rebuild. I taught myself minimal Solaris loading on quark. Which is why I brought him down...it's patching time! This could take awhile, I'm not sure. He's probably only three rev's back, and he's got probably twice the throughput of those Ass Blade's at work. I don't know where quark will go, or what I'm going to do with him, but I'm sure I'll figure something out.

I started dismantling unused servers at the ADC today. Of course the trash was in the way, so I bundled up all that and took it out. Then I got hungry and had to hunt some food. After that my headache was worse, so I made a pot of coffee. Sat down to drink the cup and starting adding album art to iTunes. Needless to say, I haven't actually dismantled anything yet.

David came over last night and we played a few rounds of Holomatch before organizing the pictures of his last 3 years at the Star Trek convention in Vegas. while I cleaned out my desk. I used to like the one-on-one hunt, but we've been playing massive maps against as many bots as I can fit in. It's been a lot of fun.

...

All patches run and blastwave packages updated. quark is back online! I also managed to stack some unused boxes for relocation.

Ok, so I admit it's sometimes hard for me to delete entire soundtracks that are in my iTunes database. But there I was, innocently listening to music and updating album art, information, etc, when I run across "All About the Benjamins" <-- the entire album! So I think, "WTF?" Now, I must admit that I had already assumed what type of music was going to be there, and as I previewed each song, I had to admit it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but I had to ask myself, "Will I EVER sit and listen to this crap?" So I deleted it. I'd rather listen to Tony's entire collection of Blood Hound Gang than spare the disk sectors on...oh who am I kidding. I'd keep 50 copies of "All About the Benjamins" on spinning disc before I listened to any BHG.

This entry comes to you today from RL-A, Wichita, Kansas via the 'base station' I set up for the wife. That is, a 333MHz/128MB Compaq Armada M300 running Windows XP Pro complete with 28.8 dial-up internet access!

On the drive to Wichita I was able to listen to the following new additions to my soundtrack collection, listed here in the order of least favorite last:

I found it odd that I preferred the two Williams' scores over the rest, but his work (at least in the above examples) is more diverse across the soundtrack than the others, also more rich and full. I've been on a Zimmer kick, but the Days of Thunder score was way too 80's cheese for me. Give the deep overtones of Wagner in his Gladiator score any day over cheese. Amelie was as bright and French as the movie, a nice distraction between the dark, monolithic tones of Unbreakable (James Newton Howard) and Constantine (Klaus Badelt).

Eric out.

Ok, so let's just chalk it up to the fact that:
A) I usually just listen to soundtracks
B) I like Southpark and
C) I love musicals

What could be better than the best song from the soundtrack to a musical version of Southpark?
Yes, I just downloaded it and listened to it! I love this song, it has such great...production value.

What would Brian Boitano do
If he was here right now?
He'd make a plan and he'd follow through
That's what Brian Boitano do

When Brian Boitano was in the Olympics
Skating for the gold
He did two sowcows a triple lutz
While wearing a blindfold

When Brian Boitano was in the Alps
Fighting grizzly bears
He used his magical fire breath
And saved the maidens fair

So what would Brian Boitano do
If he were here today
I'm sure he'd kick an ass or two
That's what Brian Boitano do

- I want this V-chip out of me
- It has stunted my vocabulary

- And I just want my mom
- To stop fighting everyone

- For Wendy I'll be an activist, too
- Cuz that's what Brian Boitano do

What would Brian Boitano do
He'd call all the kids in town
And tell them to unite for truth
That's what Brian Boitano Do

When Brian Boitano traveled through time
To the year 3010
He fought the evil robot king
And saved the human race again

And when Brian Boitano built the Pyramids
He beat up Kublai Khan
Cuz Brian Boitano doesn't take shit
From anybody...

So let's put all the pieces together
And unite to stop our moms
And we'll save Terrance and Phillip, too
Cuz that's what Brian Boitano do

And we'll save Terrance and Phillip, too
Cuz that's what Brian Boitano do
Cuz that's what Brian Boitano do...

All annoying alliteration aside (heh - assonance), I drove to Wichita this weekend just in time to put the kids to bed. Lori's biological father was in town, so we drove to her Grandparents house in Augusta and spent all day there, finishing up with a quick trip into Old Town Wichita where we drank (in this order) a light lager, a wheat beer, and a stout, while smoking corojo cigars. It was quite nice.

I took the kids to this gigantic park and my boy was Red Power Ranger, I was Blue Power Ranger, and Granpa Mike was Green Power Ranger. As there was no one else there that morning, we fought bad guys across the entire park, keeping up with the little guy.

My 5-year old bought a 1994 Milton-Bradley Mighty-Morphin' Power Rangers board game at a garage sale for $.50. It didn't come with any instructions. I found some online and we played several games. He was pretty excited. Although it was boring as hell, I hugged him tight when I left and thanked him for buying such a cool game for us to play. I can already see where next weekend will be spent...

I turned down Texas Hold'em at David and Wendy's last night 'cause I'm an ass. (Not because it took me 7.5 hours to make the 5 hour trip from Wichita to Texas and it was an impromptu game and I was expected at my folks around the time the game was to start.) Will hopefully play this evening at Tony's, as it's my weekly trek to Richardson to play with Daisy and clean her kitty box.

Apparently here at work they're still migrating NT boxes to the new domain. Us unix guys were brought it to augment the effort several weeks ago. Funny how after two days they didn't invite us back?

So I go looking for album art to add my three Midori CD's to iTunes, and low and behold what do I find? THREE more Midori CD's I now MUST HAVE!

Mendelssohn, Bruch: Violin Concertos

Mozart - Sinfonia Concertante ยท Concerto for violin, piano & orchestra

French Violin Sonatas

Wonderful! Just added to my Wish List. When's my birthday?

I'm going to take Tony out to dinner tonight, his choice of restaurant. He doesn't know this yet. And maybe return a book to Barnes & Noble if I remember to swing by the ADC and pick up the receipt.

The Higgliosaurus Corner:
HIGGS! Returned from a 4-day weekend in Tampa, Flordia. Good Cuban sandwiches, but he didn't try the best Key Lime Pie on the planet!
