Momo on the inside



I took Momo to the vet six months ago for a suspected urinary tract infection. They sent me home with the obligatory antibiotics, but she never really got any better. Here the last week or so, she's been licking herself quite a bit more than usual, so I lifted the tail to take a peek and took her back in - it was pretty bad.

After he took pictures (it was rare to see this in cats he said), he ran me through the numerous tests we could run on her in trying to determine the cause of her ailment. Being too fat to feel her bladder, he suggested an x-ray as the first course of action, cautioning me costs could quickly escalate in the search. I agreed to the x-ray and what he found was bladder stones (close-up x-ray here). He was downright giddy to have had such a successful find on the first try (I was giddy too, but for entirely financial reasons), but the surgery would be $1000.

I don't want to spend that on an cat who's getting as long in the tooth as Momo, but I also don't want to have her put down because of bladder stones - nor do I want her to be in discomfort, obviously. So he sent me home with some steroids and antibiotics to give her, letting me know I should expect visible results within a week, but this is only a short-term solution. Too long on steroids, and she'll develop diabetes, adding insult to injury :(

We can really only do for our elderly furry friends the same as we would do with humans (well - you can't put humans down, at least here in America.). I am sorry Momo isn't well. :(
