Kids begged me to create a character on the java-game Wizard 101, a MMORPG I've been playing with them all weekend. Lots of family-friendly addictive fun, and free to play. Since both my kids have been playing longer than me there's been some hand-holding while I "power-up" to new spells and quests.

Fun and bonding, all wrapped into one.

Now I've never really been one for MMORPGS, but most of the kids on there are under 13 as is referenced by the "No Chat" balloon over their head, but I'm guessing there are plenty of parents just like me, playing this delightfully enchanting game with their sons and daughters. It lighthearted and cheerful and lots of good fun with surprisingly intricate and gorgeous effects. Did I mention its free to play?

Anyway, that's where I've been all weekend.

Vanquishing supernaturally animated undead via spells and magic is good, clean, fun.

Very cool avatar!

And as I was looking at your blog on my Netbook, I realize the small screen really didn't do your graphic justice.

Sounds like a terrific weekend. Where else today could a family play all weekend for free.

When I was a kid, the answer was always, "a mudhole."

I CAN'T WAIT until I can play games with the kids in any kind of fashion (even though, like you, i'm not really into MMORPGs).

Sounds fantastic!

For FPS we adore UT2004, for RPG we're really into Diablo II/Dungeon Siege and for RTS our favorite series is Age of Empires.

Commenting backward in time, since I haven't been on LJ much... the game's not written in Java. :-)

Aye, it was the surreptitiousness "web" installer which threw me. Fascinatingly tiny and lightweight!

The kids have moved onto "Perfect World" which, for example, requires downloading a 5GB executable. Ugh!
