Its not just fine things I enjoy, though I do have a bit of an eye for them, but I marvel in joyous practicality when a work of art can also be utilized. My favorite mousepad is a reproduction of a Persian run - a gift by [livejournal.com profile] photogoot many years ago - its next to my laptop where I put my external drive and back-up blackberry. That is because I have a new mousepad which isn't really a mousepad at all - ita a Spitfire Kentish Ale pub mat, and very nearly identical to the look and feel of a mousepad only double its length. And since I use two mice, it lends itself beautifully to the task. A gorgeous and unexpected gift from [livejournal.com profile] somebritinmass.

But when [livejournal.com profile] michelle1963 posted on her Harvest-themed table runner she made for my wife, she called it a "small project." I fired back that it was enormous compared to a coaster - and had to eat my hat when she made me one. My own quilted coaster! And she even chose scraps for it from her mother's Asian-themed king-sized bedspread (again in HDR) I'd been so enamored with.

Its the finer things in life...

You have no idea how much I snickered as I was making your coaster. Sheer amusement!

I am so pleased that you are so pleased with it. :-)

Beautiful avatar! I saw the notifications come through (I can't see the images on my blackberry) but didn't know what you'd chosen; very nice!!

I am still a long way from making the beautiful avatars that you do, but I am learning, and appreciate your tutelage.

Gorgeous coaster (and table runner...and that bedspread is to die for). An eye for design and a great sense of humor--gotta love it! I'm admiring your Persian rug mousepad too.

:D

Here's a picture that uses high dynamic range to better bring out the colors in the bedspread - http://wilddamntexan.com/kids/asian_king_hdr_111125.jpg

And after your comment, I played a game of, "Where's Waldo" and tried to find the rug mousepad over the years, it was more difficult than I thought it would be! http://ehowton.livejournal.com/159063.html
