  • Does anyone have any Burt Bacharach played by someone other than Burt Bacharach?

    • Think Mantovani, Nelson Riddle...Ferrante & Teicher..someone with less of that funky 70s sound.

      • I have his Greatest Hits but its just so freaking dated.

"I often wonder why the SG-1 team hasn't thought of riding ATV's through the Stargate on planets where their objective is 10+ kilometers from their ingress point."

To minimize ecological impact after that incident on PXY-887?

But, seriously, "Window of Opportunity" was a complete hoot. I never thought watching two guys playing golf could make me laugh that hard...

I considered that, along with "to move more stealthily" but surely they could use battery-operated golf-carts?

I never thought watching two guys playing golf could make me laugh that hard...
Teal'c juggling out-of-character was the definitive moment for me. I've not laughed that hard, out loud, in a long, long time.

Golf carts would probably be slower than a group of trained commandos and there's not a lot of terrain they can manage. Now maybe one of those huge human-sized slingshots?

See the icon for my reaction to Teal'c juggling. Too funny. Like much of the episode, actually :) Hysterical ep all around. I haven't looked at Froot Loops the same since ;p

Ah yes, PXY-887! Believe it or not, I don't have all those 'Stargate Universe' world's designations memorized. I hope this doesn't disappoint you too greatly. I was able to look it up, however and speaking of things to memorize which are entirely not useful, I noticed that world didn't have an associated gate address.

Sorry. Guess I should have just said "the planet with the Salish Indians". I sometimes forget not everyone's as big a geek as I am ;p

Still not as big a geek as I could be. I don't even know the Gate Address for good old Terra *is a bad fangirl*

Though using ATV's might be practical they could not exactly chit chat along the way and bring out the story line. Not using them is the opposite effect of using the transporter on Star Trek. Using shuttles to go down to the surface of a planet was time consuming to the story line and not practical.

Ah! I'm sure that's it. Though it was always more fun watching Sheppard & Co. embark. Way more witty and fun. Sorry, but that's just the way it is with me.

Have you been watching Torchwood: Children of Earth???

Captain Jack Hartness came out of the closet.

We're starting it this week, but that's hardly a revelation.

Why did you think John Barrowman was English or something???
Date/Time: 2009-07-26 17:15 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] kat-rowe.livejournal.com
Jack was in the closet? Or was this a literal closet where one hangs actual clothes?

I'd say Jack was pretty well established as sexual fluid the first time he appeared in "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances" where the sequence of events was roughly:

1) hit on male RAF dude
2) hit on Rose Tyler
3) eye the Doctor with unfeigned appreciation
4) Rose: "Are the words 'we need a diversion' headed my way." Jack: "Trust me, you aren't his type. I'll go..."
5) watch the Doctor and Rose dance with the look of a guy who completely gets the metaphor

Ianto came out to his family, however. *sobs over Day 4* Was that what you meant? Still a great, if rather depressing, 5-hour block *thunks*

True. And they're an adorable couple :) I'll refrain from emoting on any other topics close to my heart right now, but I kind of adored poor Ianto being all uncomfortable and awkward and his sister not even batting an eyelash.

*smushes Ianto* I've always had a soft spot for downtrodden office grunts who sleep their way to the top and then become walking snark-machines ;p

I haven't watched any episodes of Torchwood - all I've seen has been my f-list going YAY HOT MAN-SEXING - so, no, I haven't seen anything to make my inner slasher all happyface! Hit me with screencaps?

Janto was actually my first slash pairing and I still only have one other (well, one and a half, lol).

Sorry i'm not using the Janto icon. this one is my "that's hot on any number of inappropriate levels" icon which just works better for this scene because I haven't been able to walk through the Botanical Gardens in a pure state of mind since and you don't even want to get me started on stopwatches...

Okay, that's it. Now I'm totally sold on the idea of watching Torchwood after seeing all of that! I don't think I've ever been into a canon slash pairing (sadly, I keep having to remind myself that Anakin/Obi-Wan isn't canon, no matter how many hot looks they give each other), and ZOMG HOT MEN.

(My, my, Ianto is tasty.)

PS. You're amazing! Thank you for all the eye candy. :)
Date/Time: 2009-07-28 00:30 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] kat-rowe.livejournal.com
I've actually never felt strongly one way or the other about slash. If it's in-character and they're both characters I like, I'll read it. Janto is actually the first canon slash pairing I was exposed to and, while it was weird at first (their relationship, not the fact that they were both guys; can you say complicated?), it quickly became one of my favorite pairings. And, I left out a couple of incredibly sweet kisses that you'll enjoy seeing for the first time without spoilers :)

Another "couple" has since achieved my #1 shot, but Janto is a close second. *smushes them* And then procedes to pimp her favorite series of all time. My only other slash pairing right now is Sanctuary's Watson/Druitt and that might as well be canon because the two actors involved essentially read the script and said to each other: "Okay, this is an emotionally charged situation and the dialog is insanely loaded. Let's see how much eye-sex we can get away with before the Director calls us on it!" Both eps they were in together are just rife with sexual ambiguity (I'll seriously pair off Watson with anything that has a pulse). No kissing, but still some intense stuff :)

Watson is the guy with the goatee, Druitt's the bald one, and the kid who looks like his head is about to explode from the awesome of watching two guys with their personal history hitting on each other is Will, the show's POV Character

Oh, "Captain Jack Harkness" was such a beautiful ep. So sweet and tragic *sniffles*

But, oddly, the part that really stuck out for me wasn't the love story (which was gorgeous), it was Toshiko panicking about being a Japanese woman stuck in London during the war and Jack's quiet promise to always take care of her. To me, that just highlighted how much he loves the members of his team and how he'd do anything to keep them safe. Reminds me of the table scene in "Adam". SO sweet...

While the excuse might be that it isn't military protocol to have the point team use vehicles, I'd guess the real reason is budget -- while buying ATVs for the show wouldn't be hideously expensive, and would amortize quickly, the additional cost of trucking them to location is not small. Plus once you get into the notion of having vehicles of any kind for the teams, there's the need to use them in showy ways -- stunts, etc., which means additional vehicles tricked out, mock-ups, and so forth. Cost, cost, cost.

And there wouldn't be just one of each -- four ATVs onscreen would mean four backups in case of failure.

So they go on foot. Notice that the MALP doesn't go more than five meters from the gate, usually.

It would be prettty funny to see Teal'c on an ATV though.

ARGH

POWER RANGERS

Sorry, just been forced to hear a lot of Power Rangers in the background lately. I keep hearing "Go go Power Rangers!" in my sleep. *twitch*

In other news, would anyone like to purchase a Power Ranger/Transformers/Star Trek/Terminator/Speed Racer-obsessed child? Super-cheap, and does household labour well! :)

They grow out of it around ten years of age. Unfortunately it increases exponentially each year prior to that time. In short, its going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. To your advantage, they change the Power Rangers annually, perhaps the next iteration will be less annoying? But probably not.

No.

I just have some 16th century sacred music that I'm listening to right now. But I'm guessing that doesn't hit your spot at this very instant.
Date/Time: 2009-07-27 12:12 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
There's got to be some orchestration of Burt Bacharach out there without the full-on 70s zydeco/washboard/tamborine sound. Ugh.

The only 16th Century music I have in the house is Medieval Cantigas & Minnesang from The Newberry Consort, and you're right, I don't think that's going to do the trick. I'll keep looking.
