"When it rains, it pours" my mother used to say. I didn't really understand that, until I was an adult.

I was booted into XP when I awoke and sat down with my cup of coffee upon arising from my overnight slumber (or at least part of the night - I stayed up late last night), so I checked my Notes and completed all my tasks that come via that medium this morning, then booted into linux before vpn'ing in. When [livejournal.com profile] drax0r couldn't get a response out of me later on email, and I replied to his text message that I would reboot when I got a chance to get back into Notes, he replied simply, "iNotes, ass" reminding me that we do actually have web-access to corporate email. My elation was quickly tempered by the sheer amount of messages which had managed to come across (most indicating trouble while my back was turned) between early this morning, and later this morning.

I'm testing two new monitoring applications for our data center, but so far all the tarballs have been corrupt. When I finally downloaded the source zipfile, it came down clean, however the source build looked like a nightmare on a solid box - and something is seriously wrong with the Solaris 10 zone I was testing in, so I chose not to even try it. (I have a hankering it was setup on a LDAP server which is no longer functional - all my user commands were failing and NIS was turned off.) Then [livejournal.com profile] drax0r asked me to vnc into a box to check an ftp for him - but I couldn't connect to the server, though I could ping it. Weird. So I did an X-forwarding ssh into one of my boxes as work - the vnc would connect, but I couldn't pass the display back through the vpn. Arrrgh! Oh yeah, and I was doing all this from home today because the boy was sick. (NO PANTS!) So in between all of of my work-related activities, I helped him through a few levels of Lego Batman on the PlayStation and built-out that enormous Lego starfighter for him.

Back to the computer, back to his room, back to the computer - ALL DAY LONG! Then he was hungry. Wanted ramen noodles (he always wants ramen noodles). When I was done with his I thought, 'Shit, I'll eat this too - its quick!' I haven't had ramen noodles in ages. Maybe once over the last couple of years. When it was at the end of its 3-minute boiling phase, I cracked two eggs into the water, Korean-style. My son was fascinated. He even tried some, though it was too hot for him despite my warning that I put equal parts curry & cayenne into the ubiquitously named 'Oriental flavor' packet.

I have a E420 under my desk - I decided to put the monitoring software on that only...I'm currently running linux and almost nothing is written for linux/SPARC. *sigh* I downloaded everything onto my ubuntu laptop at work for now. Tomorrow, I'll shut the box down, pull the drives, and replace them with a couple of drive I have Solaris 10 on. This box I'm quite positive I'll be able to make sing me a minuet.

Minutes now until little girl gets off the school bus, I still have dishes to wash and chicken to grill. T-minus two hours before my wife gets home. By the power of Greyskull! I have a MONSTER I keep in the refrigerator for emergencies! Convinced this counts, I crack that bitch and pump her into my system like Popeye gnawing on a can of spinach.

Almost instantly, I'm transformed. To borrow from Dudley Moore, its like getting a hand job from a beautiful woman I hardly know.

I'm ready to face the rest of the day's battle.

I could definitely go for a MONSTER right now! I have had no energy all day today! I have gotten absolutely nothing done and I feel like I haven't slept in multiple days! I don't know what is wrong with me, but.....I might just pick up a MONSTER when I get out to go pick up Glopup!

Being the man of excesses that I am, its amazing what denying oneself can actually accomplish when you attempt something new - like restraint. I hope your MONSTER makes you feel as fantastic as I do now. I tried to bring your NUMB3RS 1&2 to you last night ([livejournal.com profile] glodowg will be bringing them home with her today )are you perchance finished with Season 3? If you bring it by on your way to pickup glopup, I'll through in a MONSTER MAN-HUG. That always helps, too!

We have not even started season 3, but I will bring it by and you can watch it first because I have no clue when we will get a chance to sit down and watch it. I will bring it by after I pick Glopup up from the high school!

Dude! You rock the free-world. And trust me, we'll have it finished before you even start looking for it. I may be outside grilling. In the rain. So please, just help yourself inside.

Thanks!
