Empathy

Spoke to my daughter at length last night - one of our hours-long philosophical conversations - and she was telling me her mother surprised her (or more specifically, that she was, "shooketh"); I was, in turn, myself surprised. While the entire family was there for Christmas, she thanked her mother for the empathy with which she was raised for it now provides her with objectivity and other tools in which to manage (among other things) complex social situations.

Her mother replied, "Thanks, but I learned that from your father."
