All I wanted was a week off.
That didn't happen.
The shenanigans of my daughter now over (four and a half hours of driving in a single day) she managed to get my father sick last night with fever and vomiting. I was sitting in the theater yesterday watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (which I found delightful - then again, I don't get out much) when I realized that I was going to have a fever later that evening. Sure enough, at around 2200 it peaked at 100.1. Low-grade to be sure, but despite my double-helping of Excedrin, I thrashed around in a miserable state until 0400 where a hot bath seemed to calm me.
I slept until 0900, being awakened by the phone with the news of my father. Taking check of myself I sent work an email stating that I would be there later this afternoon, and why, then created a juice from bok choy, kale, a grapple, a red pear, three carrots, a lime and endive. Splash of pomegranate juice and I was good to go. Until the phone rang again.
My in-laws this time. They'd taken my son to the doctor and he too has strep. They're on their way from Wichita, and I feel like I'm going to throw up. My daughter's birthday is Saturday at the lake, and it took her 48 hours before the antibiotics kicked in. And while I have a very loose work schedule, at some point, I'm going to have to work.
I'm frustrated. And I feel sorry for my folks, my in-laws, my kids, and myself. Thank you, and I'm sorry.
There's things I need to be doing now, in fact, but sitting here is wearing me out. This was a test; am I able to work from home today?
The answer is no.
So I'm going to go lay in bed and watch Hellboy and think about not throwing up.
