1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon *ahem* squee.

  1. I adore old Steve Martin movies almost as much as I hate the ones he's made since, and including, Father of the Bride. When I was TDY to Tampa, Florida, I would call [livejournal.com profile] photogoot once a week to let him know which Steve Martin laserdisc I bought that payday. L.A. Story, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles. He and I would (and sadly, still do to this day) quote these movies ceaselessly to each other, just like the guys on Free Enterprise but less geeky and more nerdy. If that's possible. I use this avatar when I'm quoting any of those movies, or when I'm poking fun at [livejournal.com profile] schpydurx for being like Ruprecht, the monkey-boy.

  2. One of the greatest movies ever made. And a rare example of bringing something to a written work, rather than detracting from it. I was in Wichita when I came up with the idea, though its realization was some months away if I recall. I use to express grief, or righteous sorrow when deserved. Shame, were that an emotion I felt, would surely be represented with it as well. While authoring this post...

(1:55:12 PM) EricHowton: I'm looking for a post
(1:55:18 PM) EricHowton: And I can't find it.
    (1:55:25 PM) ProfessorTom: which one?
(1:55:26 PM) EricHowton: I must not've properly tagged it
(1:55:35 PM) EricHowton: It was a post I made when I was in Kansas.
(1:55:36 PM) ProfessorTom: must not have
(1:55:46 PM) ProfessorTom: that was quite some time ago
(1:55:48 PM) EricHowton: And I used a screenshot of Captain Kilgore
(1:55:53 PM) EricHowton: From Apocalypse now
(1:56:00 PM) ProfessorTom: never saw it
(1:56:04 PM) EricHowton: Yes, you did
(1:56:07 PM) EricHowton: You commented on it
(1:56:15 PM) ProfessorTom: no, I never saw the movie
(1:56:39 PM) EricHowton: You know what - all ribbing and kidding aside about Star Wars - Apocalypse Now was one of the greatest movies ever made.
(1:56:43 PM) EricHowton: In the history of movies
(1:56:55 PM) EricHowton: Only a fucking moron would admit to never having seen it
(1:57:12 PM) EricHowton: And I don't even know what they'd call it if someone who wants to be a FILMMAKER never saw the fucking movie!
(1:59:06 PM) ProfessorTom: oh wait a minute!
    (1:59:06 PM) ProfessorTom: sorry
(1:59:11 PM) ProfessorTom: I thought you were referring to Armageddon
(1:59:21 PM) ProfessorTom: I've seen Apocalypse Now
(2:00:12 PM) EricHowton: I now wonder what kind of a fuck up would get Apocalypse Now confused with Armageddon.
(2:00:40 PM) ProfessorTom: they both begin with "A"

  3. This is what living in a hotel room for six months will do to you. I am not a fan of the group Bloodhound Gang. In fact I hate them. But my buddy [livejournal.com profile] drax0r used to be a big fan (that is, if I recall, up until this album). This was the cover of their album, "Hefty Fine" which I happened to run across before he did, giving me the slim advantage of disclosing it in a post suggesting that it was he, drax0r, inside the box. It was in fact due to the misnomer of its Keyword (which to this day some people do believe it is indeed him) that he got me back with an icon of his own. Well played, sir!

  4. I was up late one night with [livejournal.com profile] melancthe pining over the fact I had no Ghostbuster avatars in which to reply to [livejournal.com profile] time3's comment on her post about stepping on a slug! He had used the word 'slimed' in which I wanted to respond with Bill Murray's famous line, "He slimed me." Having been spurned into action by her generous nature, I started and concluded a quest on screencaps that turned out to be the easy part...Once I got my source images, I spent the next sixteen hours creating complex animated gifs of Venkman turning the corner, zooming in, raising his walkie-talkie - then gets slimed! Too large. My next, an animated loop where he raises the walkie-talkie, whispers into it - then gets slimed! Too large. Back to the drawing board, the next one was a loop of just his mouth moving the walkie-talkie - then getting slimed! None of these made any sense, and the 256-color limitation was pissing me off. Then I made simple ones with text, to tell you what was happening, but I hated it! Ultimately, after about sixteen hours of failure, I ended up with this one. Meh. Three frames. Looped. My son could've made it. I used it for one frustrating day, then created the one you see here. Simple. Effective. Gorgeous.

  5. I am stormtrooper.

I would like your animated GB icon much more if the animation was more interesting, like using different dissolves between shots. The second frame makes me chortle.

(2:00:12 PM) EricHowton: I now wonder what kind of a fuck up would get Apocalypse Now confused with Armageddon.

I LOL'd like a mad LOL'ing thing.

My favorite is those who really think its you. As if! What do they think I do, keep a picture of you in the bathtub as my cell phone wallpaper?

I really didn't! I copy & pasted from [livejournal.com profile] swashbuckler332 and he no doubt also copy & pasted it. At least I threw in my own disclaimer! (That was my *ahem* preceding it).

Hrumph!

I really didn't!
Guess I read it wrong then.

Sounds like a legal loophole.
Well, yeah...that's it. I was using someone else's words. That makes sound a lot less like someone reading, "squee" on my site...right?

I think you did 3 out of the 5 of them.

Galinda was my very first one. Remember how long it took you to find the "right" pic? :)
Date/Time: 2008-03-25 02:58 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
No ma'am - galinda was my one and only original of the five I picked. You did the rest. Well, and that collaboration with [livejournal.com profile] photogoot ;)
Date/Time: 2008-03-25 03:04 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] galinda822.livejournal.com
Oops! My bad!

But Galinda will always be my favorite.

And the Wicked Witch of the West I might have picked, were she still present.
Date/Time: 2008-03-25 03:07 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] galinda822.livejournal.com
I removed here when I found the Headless and Scream avatars.

I found I never really used her. Sorry!

1. L.A. Story still makes me teary eyed and all goose bumplie at the end... Is that gay?

2. It's a shame about shame...

3. Who doesn't like a fat guy in a little box?

4. "Simple. Effective. Gorgeous." ~Nuff said.

5. I have always loved the fact that this a-hole appears to be standing in front of a fleet of while dodge Omni's. Sweet ride...
