With the IBM laptop tucked neatly away in its bag adjacent the AirCard where it belongs, I finally put my interim office together! I'm running the Mac & the XP box off a 'flip' KVM and have my Solaris server up and running (give DNS a couple of days to propagate). As everything I own is in storage, and having used two dissimilarly sized filing cabinets and a closet door as my last 'desk' (with the rack-mount Solaris box between the shorter filing cabinet and the closet door) at my last office, I finally bit the bullet and purchased a 6' table from Sam's. This is something I will be able to use over and over. All-in-all, very adequate. [livejournal.com profile] drax0r set his desk up the day before, ensuring the cable modem was to his standards (3.7mbps down) and rebroadcasting wireless throughout the house. We're back-to-back in the dining room 'office.' It's nice to have iTunes back.

drax0r discovered the Anna, TX forums - so we've both been active on there. Kinda getting to know your neighbors in a creepy online sort of way. they even have separate forums for each subdivision in town - lots of chatter on there. Anna also appears to be the single seller of liquor in the county. Nice! Though via the forums, we've discovered them to be the bane of the residents, after visiting a few of them, I've noticed that the exclusivity of them in the county, plus the sheer number of them in this small town, makes for very competitive pricing. I bought a new bottle of Scotch at a fantastic price, and will be updating my Scotch Review with it shortly, as well as two others I have yet to add, the Glenfiddich 15, and the bottle of Glenmorangie 12 drax0r presented to me upon my arrival.

[livejournal.com profile] crowy prepared a fantastic dinner of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans for dinner this evening. I tired to make a gravy out of the drippings, but it turned out to be more oil than broth and didn't turn out. Despite lack of gravy on the meal, everything was eaten. Last night was her famous spaghetti, spoiled by the addition of too much crushed red pepper. Oddly enough, it was all eaten as well! The kitchen is spacious enough for multiple cooks; a wonderful change from my last place of residence. Soon, the grill will come...

I hope you all are doing well and having a fantastic evening!

I'm excited about the grill being here.

There will be grillage! 23-days and counting...

Maybe I'll grill me up some baby clown.

I am pleased to see [livejournal.com profile] drax0r's screen is no longer filled with cigarette butts. ;-)

Give it time. Scratch that - he's a married man now. He's all respectable 'n shit. Besides, with my wife in the house you know that will not stand.

Messy Desk! Now your looking more realistic!! :-D

Have fun y'all!

The desks above were shot on 'Day One.' The WDT desks were after approximately 6-months of pure work. Here's to the above desks staying nice and clean ;)

? Ok...

I like messy better then orderly. Orderly means I'm a neat freak. I hate neat freaks. Messy means I am myself. :-D

What is that thing under [livejournal.com profile] drax0r's LCD?
Date/Time: 2007-08-01 20:50 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
weyoun. A 2.8GHz x86 box (then) running Slackware (now) running ubunutu 7.0.4. Yes, its an Antec case.
Date/Time: 2007-08-01 21:52 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
I would have thought that [livejournal.com profile] drax0r would have thought Ubuntu too simplistic for his b0x3n.
Date/Time: 2007-08-01 21:59 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
He's slowly adapting to it.
Date/Time: 2007-08-01 22:00 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
I do have to say this for Ubuntu: it really does just work. There's only one config file to manage, not four like with Red Hat/Fedora.
Date/Time: 2007-08-01 22:08 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
He used to despise auto-dependencies. But now he's singing the praises of apt-get.
Date/Time: 2007-08-01 22:49 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
You'll have that.
Date/Time: 2007-08-02 03:26 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
That's only because apt-get allows him to be even lazier by not having to find and install all those dependencies himself.
Date/Time: 2007-08-02 06:08 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
He says, "After you've run slackware for 14 years, you can then bitch at me for running an auto-dependency system."

You see, back before you were born, and [livejournal.com profile] drax0r and I were HP/UX admins - back then you were never supposed to install entire patch bundles, rather, pick and choose which ones were specific for your needs. Sometime after Solaris 2.6, the environment changed dude to security issues mostly, and Recommended Updates became the norm.

In other words, STFU, you've been running Windows since you stopped wetting yourself, and ooooh - you've discovered an easy operating system!
Date/Time: 2007-08-02 13:43 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
I never said that he wasn't entitled to his opinion. Rather, I was pointing out that Ubuntu reinforced his current online persona.
Date/Time: 2007-08-02 14:51 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
No, you were being antagonistic. There's a difference.
Date/Time: 2007-08-02 15:23 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
Couldn't it have been both?
Date/Time: 2007-05-18 05:10 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
I thought I had already commented on this. Guess I just looked at it, thought about what I wanted to say and move on.

I like [livejournal.com profile] draxor's case better then I do yours. And he has a Mac Pro. That rat bastard! I want one. Fucking A, man!

How the hell do you find forums for your local? I mean what the bloddy hell? You're fucking freaky, dude! And so are your neighbors.
Date/Time: 2007-05-18 05:25 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
They're both Antec cases. My personal case is very similar to your own, but the one you see on my desk was purchased as a sleeper. They were purchased with WDT monies. Don't let the plain-jane box fool you. Even three years old, she's running circles around any other desktop I've had.

Yes, [livejournal.com profile] drax0r has a Mac Pro and a Mac Book. That's how I got into Macintosh. He gave me his mini. Sure the Mac Pro is faster and supports OpenGL, but I can tuck my little mini under the monitor ;)

drax0r found the local forums by being proactive. Cool huh? You should try it sometimes. I'm having a blast on there already.
Date/Time: 2007-08-01 19:52 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
now, a little over two months after this comment, do you still feel as positive about the forums and local community?
Date/Time: 2007-08-01 20:26 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
Nothing has changed.

Date/Time: 2007-08-01 20:31 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
Odd as this may sound - I don't usually let a solitary event change who I am.
Date/Time: 2007-08-01 20:32 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
now that you mention it, that is odd.
Date/Time: 2007-05-21 18:21 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapper521.livejournal.com
I have forums for my local area dear Tomas. I just choose not to tap into them. Like you, I find it weird. However I thought I should point out that they aren't the only ones who COULD be in a local forum.
Date/Time: 2007-05-21 18:41 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] schpydurx.livejournal.com
but you're already fucking freaky, so you're in the same boat as Howton.
Date/Time: 2007-05-21 19:01 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapper521.livejournal.com
Haha :-D Thanks. Best thing somebody has told me in a long time.

I didn't say you were a freak, I just said you're fucking freaky. As in you're weird. Not like the rest of us. We all run away from you.

Crowy is Draxor's wife??

Glad to hear your truly getting settled in. What does your wife think about sharing a house with dear drax?
Date/Time: 2007-05-21 00:54 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
[livejournal.com profile] jesskd26 = [livejournal.com profile] drax0r's wife.
[livejournal.com profile] crowy = [livejournal.com profile] jesskd26's best friend.

Soon, this house will be filled with 5 adults, 4 children, and 5 cats. I'm sure my wife will do just fine. We begin building our new home as soon as the one in Saint Louis sells. It was shown once today, and someone who'd seen it previously stopped by on their own to take some more pictures. That sounds encouraging.
Date/Time: 2007-05-21 18:13 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapper521.livejournal.com
Yes it does. :-D I hope it all works out before the wives start killing one another. :-D

Crowy/Jesskd/Draxor Interesting... :-P I wondered who she was... Should have asked sooner.
