Not bad at all. I don't exactly know what it is about it. Wikipedia classifies it as 'electrogoth' and iTunes imports it as 'industrial.' I disagree with the latter, so...electrogoth it is! I think the elements I enjoy about this album can all be attributed to recall of memories. Its reminiscent of both the bands I used to hear haunting the club scene in Germany when I was over there, but with the addition of having an 80's sound to it. With that, might I suggest [livejournal.com profile] ximo give it a listen if he's not already familiar with them. I'd have to listen to them back-to-back with VNV Nation before comparing the two, but looky, I've already gone and drawn a similarity betwixt the two.

Rec'd my T-60. I didn't have a copy of XP which contained the SATA driver required for the harddrive, so I retained the SOE and simply modified the registry entries and services.msc to cull out the unneeded horseshit which usually plagues such an installation. Besides, it was easier to keep all the IBM specific software which was already contained within the operating system. Its a rather large form factor. Not as bulky as those massive Inspiron laptops Dell sells, but nowhere near the portability of the X1 I've grown accustomed to, either. The good news, I suppose, is that this machine has a 2.0GHz CoreDuo processor, and 2GB of RAM. I've been playing with a combination of Parallels Workstation (similar to VMware) & dual-booting to put an alternate O/S on this machine. I'd prefer Parallels to mitigate a reboot, and I have the RAM for it, but I'm having issues with the SATA driver. In the meantime, I'm downloading kubuntu 7.0.4 for giggles; we'll run everything off that and see what's what.

The time grown near, and yet, here I sit, no further along. I felt a great sense of foreboding the other day. An unease settling quickly upon me, the gravity of everything finally coming to me. Leaving [livejournal.com profile] galinda822, questioning my own abilities where this new position fits in, selling the house, relocating my family, juggling once again everything I juggle when I I go through this...then I realized I was just getting sick. I went to the doctor, he put me on narcotics for a couple of days and I slept. I slept like the dead. Slight fever last night, but when I awoke, I knew I would emerge victorious. I always do.

Working my last day of work tomorrow. A full day as the Site Service Delivery Manager. Then, I turn in my badge and drive to Wichita to pick up little girl, returning home the next morning. It greatly interferes with my Friday Night Movie Night and, if all continues to go as planned, what would have been our last. I've packed up all but 64 of my Cd's, those remaining in a travel case until I relocate. I'll take those with me to Wichita. Another 14-hours on the road this weekend...

Lost my love, lost my land
Lost the last place I could stand
There's no place I can be
Since I've found Serenity
And you can't take the sky from me.

I'm very, very disappointed you're missing what would have been our LAST Friday night together. :(
Like I said our time is growing shorter and shorter. I wish you weren't leaving me! It was inevitable though. Just hard for me to accept.

With everything you have going on the next few weeks it's a good thing you did go to the doctor. Finally, both of us are getting some good rest.

Aye, I wasn't prepared to drive to Wichita tonight either. Best laid plans of mice & men...

The doco's a good guy. Pretty much cleared me up in two days flat. Of course I didn't get anything done during those two days, but I feel better. We should think about lunch today being my last day and all. Whaddya think?

We are so doing lunch! I'd like it if we could actually go out for lunch.

Uh... that music looks odd. :-P Probably nothing I would ever listen to. But hey - if you like it... :-)

I'm pleased to hear that your health is improving.

I wonder if perhaps you didn't get sick because of the stress. I've heard that when your stressed, your body's immune system is not what it should be.

I hope all goes well for you tomorrow Eric. :-) I'm also sure that though she will miss your company immensely, Galinda will be ok... eventually. ;-)

Exactly the point I was trying to make. (http://ehowton.livejournal.com/125202.html) I wouldn't buy a CD with an interesting cover because I didn't know what kind of music it was. I listened to it so as to not judge this book by its cover. Apparently, you do. Sad, really.
Date/Time: 2007-04-22 03:37 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapper521.livejournal.com
I don't really like punk rock... and some other kinds, so I probably won't want to listen to them if I haven't heard of them! :-P

Besides... I have no money, or very little money, constantly.

You have a steady job, a good wife and two good kids... the wife and children are a constant drain, but by most appearances... you seem to have money which you can spend on just about anything you want! :-P So... by comparison, I think I would be more likely to think that someone like me, who has no money, would be more likely to only buy music she or he has heard of. :-)

I've noticed when you never have any money, it means a lot more when you finally DO have some once in awhile...
Date/Time: 2007-04-22 04:21 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
I didn't buy it either, for the same reasons. I downloaded it.
Date/Time: 2007-04-23 03:46 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapper521.livejournal.com
Hmm... interesting.

I've heard that when your stressed, your body's immune system is not what it should be.

That's genreally true. I think that is why I get sick a lot because I stress and worry too much.
Date/Time: 2007-04-20 21:22 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
Stress is inevitable. Worry is not. Do not waste cycles worrying about things you have no control over. It will do absolutely no good in the end. Instead, rough-draft actions for different possible scenarios and leave it at that. You'll find you're happier and healthier.

The words of the wise.

Correct oh wise one...

Odd - I already do that. Didn't know why though.
Date/Time: 2007-04-22 02:51 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapper521.livejournal.com
Yeah. :-) I already thought about that. I also had the thought perhaps you have a vitamin deficiency. That along with the stress factors could really cause your immune system to take a gutter dive.

I really do wish you could get better long enough to feel good... just seems like your always sick, then feel better, then get sick less then a day later... :-P Maybe I'm being to dramatic, but its how it seemed there for awhile.
Date/Time: 2007-04-22 02:53 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com
And we both agree he could use some serious R&R.

Oddly enough as of yet, I haven't received a notice that you had commented me for that thread...

In general as an all around: Sorry that you felt I over stepped my bounds.

I'll take a listen to Dreamcypher when I get a chance. Thanks for the hookup.

I think you'd like my laptop better, but it's hard to compare the specs.

I think the part of life I hate the most is the moving on part. Yes it's necessary, if you do it right it's the best thing that can happen for you and can be a very happy time, yet it hurts to leave the people you have come to know, love and respect. I still hold to my take on Will's Parting is such sweet sorrow: I never have figured out where the sorrow comes from (the majority of the time.)

It sucks that your movie night got ruined. I was going to send you a gift card to Ruth's Chris but I still think that today is Thursday instead of Friday. As you are want to say, "It's just not in the cards."

Thanks for the thought, but please don't spend that kind of money on me, ever. You save that money for gas for your Texas trip and I'll be just fine, ya hear?

Why would I like your laptop better? More details please. I had the option of the T60 or the Dell D620. The D620 is identical in specs with the difference being a widescreen display. Nice, to be sure. But that's our client's standard, and I was hoping to get back to my company's internal standard, which is why I chose the T60. Hey, the Dual-Layer DVD burner is a nice addition regardless!

As far as moving around, I've done it my whole life, as has my wife. Call it the military in us, but we're used to it. Instead of thinking on the people we're going to miss (and we've always maintained good relationships with friends we've left) we always focus on the new friends we'll make. Change is a part of life, if you don't accept it, you'll be a miserable prick with no friends.

You are my friend, it's my money, and I'll spend it how I see fit...making sure to have enough for the Trip to Texas. (That sounds like a great title for a book or movie. We ought to make a website out of the trip.)

Why would I like your laptop better?
While it's not the smallest or lightest laptop out there, it's pretty slim and rather light. Plus, it's got an Turion 64 X2 with 2GB of DDR2 with the lightscribe Dual Layer DVD burner. I think our laptops are comparable. We will have to do just that in August.

I still hate leaving people behind.

Correction: The people I hate to leave behind are few and far between, but I'm learning to make new friends and actually give a shit. It's sad.

And for the record, it's "wont."

As you are wont to say,

wont.

    –adjective
  1. accustomed; used (usually fol. by an infinitive): He was wont to rise at dawn.

  2. –noun
  3. custom; habit; practice: It was her wont to walk three miles before breakfast.

  4. –verb (used with object)
  5. to accustom (a person), as to a thing.

  6. to render (a thing) customary or usual (usually used passively).
