I wanted to woo a hopeless romantic
In absolutely the best way I could
I taught myself Shakespearean iambic
And waxed poetic about where I stood
An inspiration from Bronte and Poe;
Pre-Raphaelite masters I knew well
Weaving together to see where it'd go
Surely I'd woo her in time I should tell
I practiced and practiced over again
Honing my skill; spilling my very soul
Each verse, each stanza, a joyful amen
Peeking ever closer through the keyhole
But when I finally cracked open that door
A hopeless romantic she was no more
