Relationship Anarchy is the practice of forming relationships which are not bound by rules, aside from what the people involved mutually agree on. Relationship anarchists look at each relationship (romantic, platonic or otherwise) individually, rather than categorizing them according to societal norms; each relationship is unique.

Refraining from demands as a basis of a relationship is to show respect towards other peoples independency and capability of making decisions on their own - you having feelings for others or a history together doesn't give you the right to set rules or make demands. To be able to be spontaneous – to act without the fear of being punished and without obligations – is what makes radical relationships come to life. Spontaneity is above all else the opposite to duty. You would want a relationship where you spend time with each other just because you want to, not out of a sense of duty.

Communicating with all your partners is paramount - it’s totally considered normal to have regular check-ins about boundaries and comfort levels to see if they’ve changed and what everyone is feeling - all the best relationships have at their core intimate communication, and relationship anarchy by definition pushes that envelope.
