What's in a name? Not much as it turns out. Oh, you can find a whole host of etymological tomes on the history behind personal nomenclatures - problem is, throughout that history no one has ever named the seed of their loin anything which unfolds to become, "Loser" or "Bumbling Oaf" yet the world is filled with such people.
What we have is a rich past filled with people who's names mean, "Strength of Heart" or "Leader of Men." Unfortunately allocation of might or wisdom in a designation does not predispose the individual to that role. At one end of the spectrum your name's meaning is irrelevant, on the other, ridiculous.
And speaking of archaic, my vacation days are based on how long I've been with a company. While that was a great incentive at keeping people at a particular place of business, when the employer is the one reorg'ing people, and laying off and outsourcing, it seems to me a different set of rules ought to apply, as "staying" with the company is no longer the choice of the employee.
Its not that I mind change - I don't. But you absolutely must broaden the scope to include ancillary fallout. To change something without also modifying the rules which apply to it could make it appear that you have no idea what you're doing. If you're going to change the rules, change them all accordingly.
