I resolve* to finally dismiss every initiate who thinks if I am speaking 1-degree off point, I must mean the opposite. I will consider them non-combatants on the path to enlightenment.

The elusive monochromatic spectrum
Honest to god shades of gray <-- Not a myth!

Sounds like a good plan.

What about the polar icecaps? They're melting, right? ;)

P.S. Atlas is hot.

PPS (or is it PSS?) - Very nice graphic!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this graphic! Perfect representation of the shades of gray that occur in every issue. And the tactic some use ~
jumping to the conclusion that if you do not agree wholeheartedly with the discussion point then you must believe the opposite ~ in an attempt to win the argument rather than trying to understand.

I may ask to borrow it some time. :-)

Love your graphic. Oh, how one can overlook those lovely shades of gray. It's the nuances in life that make the difference.

[identity profile] michelle1963.livejournal.com 2012-01-01 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I find it completely mind-boggling to find myself in a conversation with someone who uses this tactic.

For example:

Me: I think marijuana ought to be legalized.

Idiot: And I suppose you think we ought to let murderers out of jail too?

[identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com 2012-01-01 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll see. Apparently I said something similar two years ago this month: http://ehowton.livejournal.com/309234.html

Will I ever learn?

Cheerfully shouldering responsibility can be a powerful aphrodisiac.

[identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com 2012-01-01 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. And its PPS. Post-Post Script.

[identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com 2012-01-01 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Borrow it? STEAL IT. DISSEMINATE IT! Wield it as a weapon against ignorance.

[identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com 2012-01-01 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, ma'am. Sometimes I even amaze myself.

Yes, well I have my own examples here. (http://ehowton.livejournal.com/309234.html) Apparently I said the same thing two years ago this month.

Its a humbling thing knowing I failed.

"Mythological Creatures" ~ well-done!

You, like myself, often mistake being engaged in conversation as COMMUNICATION ~ the desire to exchange information in order to reach mutual understanding. What morons we are. These others have no desire to understand. They are not communicating; they are playing game. Their goal is to win. They fail to understand that by using discussion as a game to win, we all lose.

Reading that entry this morning made me feel empty. How very odd.

[identity profile] michelle1963.livejournal.com 2012-01-01 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...That is a bit odd. May I humbly suggest that even while you're discussing the same topic, you have grown a bit since you authored that post.

[identity profile] pcofwildthings.livejournal.com 2012-01-01 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely!

"I wield an altogether different weapon - the torch of silence"

i like this approach. i've found i just have to walk away when i reach a certain point.

though i definitely don't always succeed either, especially when it's something i'm passionate about.

I am passionate about anti-ignorance. This seems to perpetuate the problem rather than limit it :/
