Marko Ramius

WHEN GENTLE GIANTS ROAMED THE EARTH

"Yes." I said before [livejournal.com profile] catttitude had even finished her sentence. All I'd heard was "Petsmart" and "Maine Coon." Two hours later, Marko Ramius walked amongst us.

Marko Ramius
You see, Squeegie was supposed to have been my cat. "The Ghost of Daisy" and all that. But nooooooo - she goes and bonds with my wife, and my wife with her. So there I was, left cleaning the litter box.

Once more, we play our dangerous game, a game of chess against our old adversary.
Look at the freaking mits on him! And I'd forgotten how soft a Maine Coon was - not quite Bengal soft, but nearly as luxurious. And he stands just like a Maine Coon too. Its so funny having one back in the house again - so very different from Squeegie. But rather than fight, the two of them entered peace negotiations as soon as they became aware of each other.

I affectionately call Squeegie "Smushy-Face" due to her short snout.
I've never seen a cat acclimate so quickly to new surroundings. I take this as a sign that Marko Ramius is an awesome cat, and that we're going to have a great partnership he and I. Marko Ramius was born in 2008, so I hope this means we have many, many years together. He kinda makes me miss my Daisy though, too. But that's not all bad.

He doesn't react well to bullets.

*BEAM*

He's my special boy!

I can see why. I suddenly find myself wanting to get another cat *pets him*

How many do you have? We prefer two. At the most we've had three - a Maine Coon and two Bengal kittens...that was too many. After the Bengals got eaten by Coyotes and the aged cats followed each other over the Rainbow Bridge we've had only Squeegie for about a year. Now we are two again!

only the one since Loki passed. two is a good number (we've had up to 8 at one time but that was when we were doing rescue and it was kinda nuts and we adopted them all out in a few months). Betty would probably enjoy the company and it's not much additional hassle as long as I don't get one too young. Maybe I'll run by the local shelters on Monday and see what's on offer

...as long as I don't get one too young.

This exactly. I prefer mature cats. Marko Ramius is two; Perfect!

I visited a couple who ran a rescue in Alabama. One word for that nonsense - DAMN!

a lot of rescuers go totally overboard (Mom had like 3 rabies scares in the two decades she did it. how nuts?) and i may prefer my pets to be rescues but I won't do the mass-rescue thing ever again

I'm glad Speedbump wasn't mature then, now I don't feel so bad for catnapping him.

He grew into a beautiful, well-behaved boy though didn't he?

[identity profile] celtmanx.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but it took many behavior modification treatments in order to get that result!!!

And by 'damn' I mean it does take a very special type of person to do that :P
