Cutover

Driving in this morning, [livejournal.com profile] drax0r thought it would be best to physically remove the ethernet connection from the box we were swinging from to the new box, as this is our monitoring server and we required it to be as current as possible. This was by far the easiest way - especially since our DNS guys were out. Arriving at work, we scaled the hastily erected ladders, re-ran the cable, and attached it to the new box. Network multi-pathing would keep the other box up until the cutover. I updated the files on the new box with a recently created tarball, and started the daemon. I plumbed an interface on the global-zone and rebooted the container - everything came up.

Then the new server sent out upwards of 1300 emails to at least a dozen people.

*sigh*

I wanted to keep the old server on just in case I missed something. But they felt the new server should be on UPS power and turned off the old server before we left. The next day, I needed it. A config file I didn't pull over was missing. Because I run a near-identical server, I was able to pull a file from http://darkvoyager.com and fix the issue.

Friday night my high-school buddy whom I joined the Air Force with was in town for a visit. We brought our family's together at my folks, who provided a fabulous meal, and sat around the table afterward playing Catch Phrase. A nice time was had by all.

Saturday & Sunday we spent with [livejournal.com profile] celtmanx and his wife and kids. To prepare for my arrival, he purchased a 12-pack of Pilsner Urquell, then drank half of them. We had a nice lunch at Rio Mambo's then they treated the kids to Jumping Party, a giant indoor bounce park. The kids ran and screamed and played for hours. I let my son & daughter practice their "Power Ranger" moves on me while I deftly body-slammed them into the air-filled mat. They had a blast. celtmanx and I watched a couple of episodes of Firefly leaving me only the last disc of the box set until I've finished it again, and we stayed up visiting until nearly 0200. Its a long drive from Anna, but I can't wait to go again.

Upon my departure, he bestowed upon me the 3-Disc Collectible DVD Gift Set of Hellboy:

We stopped at Best Buy on the way out where I purchased a potentially dreadful series called, Starhunter. We'll see.

On the way back home I heard my son ask my daughter, "Do you remember [livejournal.com profile] galinda822?
"Yes." She replied, "But I only remember her in my mind.'

Thats funny! I only remember [livejournal.com profile] galinda822 in my mind as well.

But sometimes pictures help too. :-)

My memory is way more avid than any picture. Though they are nice to enjoy from time to time.

Me? Or the bottle?

It's not too bad once you muscle your way past the gag reflex!!!!

[identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
And yet you managed to drink six of them!

Le bébé parle avec un accent français.

I asked [livejournal.com profile] drax0r if Baby Halsell had a French accent. He replied, "Hell no! That's David's baby."

We were glad to have ya'll over. We had a lot of fun!!!

Thank you for being such an entertaining and generous host.

Jumping Party sounds cool. I bet the kids loved it.

Tell them that Aunt Car remembers them in her mind and misses them bunches!

Jumping Party wore us ALL out. Kids flying at me from all angels with their Power Ranger kicks straight out. BAM! Had to put them down!

And I will tell them you miss them bunches. Have a great first-day-back-from-work-since-a-weeks-vacation!

Maybe IT isn't your specialty.

I've been thinking about that rat bastard [livejournal.com profile] celtmanx lately. Since my ETA in Texas is unknown at this time and will likely be for a considerable period of time, if I were to send a care package to the address you supplied me with to him c/o you, would you see that he gets it?

[livejournal.com profile] melancthe would love that Hellboy set.

I don't remember [livejournal.com profile] galinda822 in my mind. What I do remember in my mind is that her middle name is "822".

[identity profile] ehowton.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)

I'm quite sure you haven't an inkling what you're saying, so I'll let that one slide.

...would you see that he gets it?
But of course.

[livejournal.com profile] melancthe would love that Hellboy set.
I'm pretty excited about it myself.

You misunderstand. I also find humor in needling you ;)

But of course.
You're a friend indeed, no matter what [livejournal.com profile] drax0r says about you!

I'm pretty excited about it myself.
I've never seen the movie myself. Perhaps I should add it to my Netflix queue, if only for the sake of...but then again, that's just water under the bridge.

Kids say the darnest things....

Good to see you out and about. Must be working hard.
