"Goth" means different things to different people, both as a derivative of the worth "gothic" and the connotations which follow either word - basically the same kinda dumb arguments which go into defining any "subculture," For the purposes of this album I sought slightly haunting versions of traditional arrangements (which were, either by design or in the case of the freaking von Trapp Children! those which simply unfolded that way unwittingly) or original compositions which denoted a slightly darker Christmas experience. But not exclusively. In some cases even non-holiday themed songs which hopefully don't sound too out of place within the arrangement. In short, standard fare.
This does not explain, nor excuse the R2D2 & C3P0 vs. The Carpenters track I mixed together at zero-drunk-thirty one morning.
That aside, I trust you'll enjoy it. Even the 24-hour satellite Christmas channels don't play stuff this good, and surely it will be the only Christmas album I'll require, as its chock full of some of my personal favorites. I grew up on the Ray Conniff Singers, for example - They're so goth. I was also thrilled to get Hermann's "Sleigh Ride" off Chiller and into a more...appropriate setting, that being, A Touch of Goth XMAS.
May the Force be with you.
