I should think that you Jedi would have more respect for the difference between knowledge and... wisdom.

The service people rely on the computer to tell them what's wrong with the vehicle. When the computer is unable or unwilling to do so, the end result is what we have here. Remember, The more idiot-proof you try to make something, the stronger idiot you create.

It was quite the decision to make. We're expecting to purchase a home within the next few months, and we certainly don't want a whopping brand new purchase on our credit report. Furthermore, next month we're out from under a $500 monthly car payment for the first time in five years. WHY WOULD WE WANT TO IMMEDIATELY GO BACK TO THAT? However, to spend the full $2800 on what I essentially consider getting the car outta hock so I can sell it seems a bit...well, extreme.

Ergo, we're going to pay the $1400 bill and see how long it lasts. If it lasts another 60,000 miles, I'll be happy. If I pay the $1400 and it has another catastrophic failure before I buy my house, I'm going to have it towed to right outside the showroom floor and set the son of a bitch on fire!
